DOUGLAS WINS JOCKEY TITLE.

Jockey Rene Douglas clinched his first championship in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  and Danny Sorenson Danny Sorenson was a fictional detective on the popular TV series, NYPD Blue, appearing from season six through season eight. The character was played by actor Rick Schroder.  recorded his first stakes victory at Hollywood Park Hollywood Park may be several places:
  • Hollywood Park, Texas
  • Hollywood Park, Chicago, a neighborhood in Chicago
  • Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, California
  • Hollywood Park Racetrack, Thoroughbred race track in Inglewood, California
 in more than a decade as the Inglewood track completed its 24th autumn season Monday.

Douglas finished with 37 victories at the 36-day meet, two more than Tyler Baze Tyler Baze (born October 19, 1982 in Seattle, Washington) is an American Champion jockey. Born into a racing family, both of his parents were jockeys as is his uncle, Gary Baze. His second cousin is U.S. Racing Hall of Fame jockey, Russell Baze.  and six more than Victor Espinoza Victor Espinoza (born May 23, 1972 in Mexico City, Mexico) is a jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. He began riding in his native Mexico and earned his first win there in 1992 before moving the following year to compete at racetracks in California. .

A 37-year-old Panama native who won four titles in a row at Arlington Park near Chicago after riding in Southern California in 1995-97, Douglas returned here early in the fall.

Doug O'Neill led the trainer standings with 17 wins to Bob Baffert's 14 and Mike Harrington's 12 to win the Hollywood Park autumn title for the second time in three years.

Declan's Moon was selected Horse of the Meet in a press-box poll after winning Saturday's Hollywood Futurity to complete an unbeaten season that is expected to be awarded with the 2-year-old national championship.

Sorenson guided the Japanese-bred mare Festival ($13.40) to a six-length victory over pacesetting Irgunette in the $150,000 Dahlia Handicap to mark the jockey's first Hollywood Park stakes win since 1992.

After the circuit's longest break of the year, Santa Anita will stage its traditional day-after-Christmas opening Sunday.
