The theme of the Avengers' 81-70 victory Saturday night over the expansion Austin Wranglers This team has nothing to do with the Oklahoma Wranglers who played in the 2000 & 2001 AFL seasons.

The Austin Wranglers are an American football team from Austin, Texas in the arenafootball2. They began play as a 2004 expansion team in the Arena Football League.
at Staples Center, their first home game since March 1, was double plays - both the football and baseball variety.

Douglas became the first player in Avengers' history to return two kicks for scores in the same game, running back both a kickoff and missed field goal for scores during the backbreaking back·break·ing

They set a franchise record for points scored and improved to 5-3 halfway through a year that started in February with expectations of the franchise's first ArenaBowl championship.

The Avengers never trailed but appeared in danger after Austin closed to 34-33 to start the second half on Darryl Hammond's 15-yard touchdown reception. But Douglas returned the ensuing kickoff 56 yards for the score, tying an Avenger record.

It turned out he was far from finished. Austin had to kick away after Russell Shaw smothered smoth·er

It was payback for an Avengers team that lost 61-55 to San Jose in the season's third game on a pair of returned kicks by the SaberCats' Rashied Davis.

The Avengers put away the game with 11 minutes, 6 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Hopkins intercepted a John Kaleo pass on the sideline and returned it to the 2-yard line. He scored on the next play.

Tony Graziani completed 19 of 25 passes for 332 yards, eight touchdowns and no interceptions. Graziani has not thrown an interception in seven of eight games. Chris Jackson had 11 catches for 210 yards and seven touchdowns.

There were signs of last year's explosiveness for the Avengers offense, which scored on 12 of 13 possessions. Four of the Avengers' touchdowns came on one-play drives and a fifth touchdown came on a two-play drive.

Austin quarterback John Kaleo completed 29 of 40 passes for 387 yards and seven touchdowns. The Wranglers, co-owned by Mark Brunell, Leigh Steinberg and Glyn Milburn, among others, fell to 5-3.
