DOT asks for more money.


Only a month after New Yorkers approved the $2.9 billion Transportation Bond Act, the State Department of Transportation is asking the city's construction community for more help.

 J. Madison, Jr. noted that the state still doesn't have enough money to finish such major projects as East Side Access and the air link to JFK Airport.

"Even with all the federal money we get, there is a local component to them, and we don't have the resources to invest in those projects," Madison said.

"So we will need additional tools to help us finance them."

Among the measures the DOT is considering is a push for design build legislation for New York State--an initiative the Department has tried unsuccessfully to pass through last year, --and partnerships with the private sector.
