DOROTHY HAMILL INTERNATIONAL TO ACQUIRE ICE CAPADES

PALM DESERT, Calif., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- 1976 Olympic Champion Dorothy Hamill announced today that her company, Dorothy Hamill International Inc., has reached an agreement with National Westminister Bank, USA to acquire the assets of the Ice Capades. Ice Capades, owned by International Broadcasting Corp. (IBC), has been operating under Chapter 11 Bankruptcy since September 1991. IBC is expected to emerge in early June this year, at which time the acquisition by Hamill's company would take place. In the interim IBC has retained the services of Dorothy Hamill International to oversee completion of this year's tours as well as production plans for the coming year's shows.
The 36-year-old skating star will assume the role of president of this new enterprise. She is joined in her new venture by husband and chief executive officer, Kenneth Forsythe, M.D., and chairman, Ben Tisdale. Tisdale is also the chairman, chief executive officer and majority shareholder of Martech U.S.A. Inc. (NYSE: MUS), a New York Stock Exchange company.
Hamill made her professional debut with the Ice Capades shortly after her Olympic victory. After starring in nine successive seasons with the show, her name became nearly synonymous with the Ice Capades. She says the question asked most often is "Are you still skating with the Ice Capades?" This year, she re-joined the show to star in the 26-week national tour which concludes in mid-April.
Reached for comment after a recent performance, Hamill, still sporting her famous "wedge haircut," commented, "This is a dream come true for me! I've always wanted to have my own skating company, and Ice Capades has such a wonderful history. There are millions of fans out there who have supported the show through some difficult times. My first goal will be to restore the luster to Ice Capades by making it the highest-quality skating company. Our ultimate goal, of course, is to create the finest live family entertainment available anywhere!"
