DONNELLY ISSUES STATEMENT ON COURT DECISION

HOLLAND, Mich., March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Dwane Baumgardner, chairman and chief executive officer of Donnelly Corporation (AMEX: DON), issued the following statement regarding this morning's decision by the United States District Court in Grand Rapids, Mich., in favor of Gentex Corporation (NASDAQ: GNTX) relating to Gentex's U.S. Patent No. 4,902,108:
"The Court has ruled that Donnelly's previously offered electrochromic mirror products, containing an older electrochromic solution, infringe a Gentex patent. Although we have presented additional defenses which the Court has not yet resolved, in compliance with the ruling, we have stopped shipping those products.
"The Court's ruling did not involve, nor apply to, our currently offered SUPERCHROMIC(TM) mirror products nor to our brand new solid film mirror products which were announced earlier this month. Our new solid film mirror product also includes our exclusive single video microchip technology. Starting today, all Donnelly automatic mirror products will use only these newer technologies.
"Although we are disappointed with this decision, it will have an insignificant effect on Donnelly's financial performance, as total Donnelly sales of the older electrochromic mirror technology comprise less than one-half of 1 percent of total company sales."
