DONEGAL DUO THROWN OFF PANEL.

Byline: CHRIS McNULTY

DONEGAL'S indiscipline problem has resurfaced yet again with the news that John Joe Doherty Joe Doherty (b. 20 January 1955 in Belfast, Northern Ireland) is a former volunteer in the Belfast Brigade of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) who escaped during his 1981 trial for killing a member of the Special Air Service (SAS) in 1980.  has kicked two prominent players off the county panel in the days leading up to their First Round Qualifier against Carlow on Saturday night.

Former captain Neil Gallagher and Ciaran Bonner, both from Glenswilly, have been axed from the squad due to 'indiscipline'. Doherty would not elaborate on the matter, only to say that the pair had been dropped for 'indiscipline' and that it was time to move on with the players who remain in the fold.

The players were informed by Doherty of his decision to omit them from his plans for the remainder of the summer on Tuesday afternoon before training in Ballybofey.

In a further twist to the matter, it has emerged that the Glenswilly club have supported Doherty's disciplinary action and the club's executive committee was due to meet last night to discuss the matter and potential disciplinary action, which they may take themselves.

Gallagher, who captained Donegal to National League success in 2007, was doubtful for Saturday's game having picked up a hamstring injury hamstring injury Sports medicine A muscle injury of biceps femoris, seen in sprinters and runners, when a contracted muscle meets a lengthening force, overpowering intrinsic muscle resiliency Management RICE, NSAIDs, gradual ↑ of pain-free activity–eg,  while playing for his club recently, but Bonner would almost have been a certain starter for the clash.
