Roper of Palmdale was presented with the award by Area Director Dennis Wick during the group's annual appreciation banquet and dance, attended by sports coordinators, coaches and volunteers at the Palmdale Moose Lodge. Roper began competing in 1973 in the pentathlon pentathlon (pĕntăth`lən), composite athletic event. In ancient Greece it comprised leaping, foot racing, wrestling, discus throwing, and casting the javelin. , a grueling track-and- field contest consisting of five events. More recently, Roper pitched and played first base on four gold medal gold medal traditional first prize.
