DON'T BE AFRAID OF 'HEIGHTS'.Byline: Evan Henerson Staff Writer HEAVEN KNOWS how many of the people who see the film ``Washington Heights'' will actually hail from Washington Heights, much less will have even heard of the largely Dominican New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of neighborhood with a too-lofty-sounding name. But even if if the film's central location is entirely a fabrication, it's easy to accept that a grocery store like Eddie Ramirez's bodega bo·de·ga n. 1. A small grocery store, sometimes combined with a wineshop, in certain Hispanic communities. 2. A warehouse for the storage of wine. would be a neighborhood institution. Alfredo de Villa, the film's-co writer and director, clearly knows this store, this neighborhood, its sights, smells and the mannerisms of its residents. Neither assignment is a cakewalk. Bodega management means upholding neighborhood benevolence as well as stocking the shelves. A quickly impatient Carlos soon learns that his new existence leaves not much time for inking the next hot superhero su·per·he·ro n. pl. su·per·he·roes A figure, especially in a comic strip or cartoon, endowed with superhuman powers and usually portrayed as fighting evil or crime. .
