 DOMINO'S PIZZA ANNOUNCES SPONSORSHIP OF
ATLANTA TIPOFF CLUB 1992 NAISMITH AWARDS
ATLANTA, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Domino's Pizza, Inc., will announce sponsorship of the 1992 Naismith Awards, including College Basketball's Player of the Year Award, today at a news conference in Atlanta.
Hosted by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, the news conference begins the national balloting process for the 1992 College Basketball Player of the Year.
Georgia Tech Head Basketball Coach Bobby Cremins, the 1990 honoree as Naismith Coach of the Year, will announce his pre-holiday picks for the men's player of the year award, and ABC-TV Sports Commentator Cheryl Miller, a three-time Naismith Collegiate Player of the Year Award winner from USC, will announce her pre-holiday picks for the women's player of the year award.
"The Naismith Award is symbolic of the best in college basketball and Domino's is proud to sponsor it," said Mike Jenkins, national director of public relations, Domino's Pizza, Inc. "There is a tremendously talented group of players under consideration this year. They epitomize the level of quality in their sport that we at Domino's strive for each day in the pizza delivery business."
Final balloting will conclude in March and Domino's will sponsor a live television broadcast April 5 announcing the Naismith Award winners. The broadcast will be syndicated by Raycom Sports, Inc., and will originate from Minneapolis, site of the Final Four.
Since 1969, the Atlanta Tipoff Club has presented the Naismith Award to promote the game of basketball and to recognize outstanding individual performances and contributions. The winners are selected through the balloting of NCAA Division I coaches, key members of the news media, former Naismith award winners, and members of the Naismith National Advisory Board.
Domino's Pizza Naismith Awards also include the Naismith High School Awards, the Naismith College Coach of the Year Awards, the Naismith College Official of the Year Awards, and the Outstanding Contribution to Basketball Award.
"Domino's was interested in sponsoring the Naismith award to honor the great game of college basketball and to pay tribute to the game's founder, Dr. James Naismith, during the sport's 100-year anniversary," said Jenkins.
Domino's Pizza, Inc., founded in 1960, is the largest pizza delivery company in the world with 1990 systemwide sales of $2.65 billion. Based in Ann Arbor, Mich., Domino's plays an active role in promoting athletics on both the professional and amateur levels.
