DOMINION RESOURCES BOARD ELECTS CAPPS CHAIRMAN

 RICHMOND, Va., Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Dominion Resources, Inc. (NYSE: D) board of directors today elected Thos. E. Capps as chairman of the board and chairman of the board of each of the company's subsidiaries. Capps, 57, will succeed the retiring William W. Berry as chairman at the end of 1992. Berry will remain a director.
 As chairman, Capps also remains president and chief executive officer of Dominion Resources. He assumed that position in May 1990.
 Dominion Resources' principal subsidiary is Virginia Power, where Capps served as vice chairman of the board until his election today. The company's other subsidiaries are Dominion Energy, Inc., Dominion Capital, Inc. and Dominion Lands, Inc.
 "Our corporation and its customers and shareholders have benefitted under the stewardship of Bill Berry and we intend to hold the course," Capps said. "At Virginia Power, we will work to remain one of America's most efficient producers of electric power. At our three nonutility companies, we will seek to grow their contributions to shareholder earnings in the 1990s."
 Capps, a native of Wilmington, N.C., joined the company in 1984 as executive vice president of Virginia Power. He became president of Dominion Resources in 1986; president and chief operating officer in 1989, and president and chief executive officer in 1990. Prior to that, Capps had served as vice president and general counsel of Boston Edison Co.; senior counsel to Carolina Power & Light Co.; and as a partner at the Miami law firm of Steel Hector and Davis.
 Capps earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
 Capps is a member of the board of directors of Bassett Furniture Industries, Inc.; a member of the board of trustees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; a member of the board of trustees of Virginia Union University; a member of the board of trustees of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and is on other area boards.
