[part(icle) + -on1.] , Country music's biggest female star, is heading to Ireland to perform at shows in Dublin, Millstreet and Belfast at the end of March and early April and fans are in for some treat. The girl from the Smokeys in Tennessee, regarded by Country aficionados as the angel from the mountains, has pioneered the joys and beauty of Country music to millions of followers the world over. She first made the charts in 1967 but it was a few years later when she joined up with Porter Wagoner, inset, that her career really took off. Together they recorded some of the finest duets ever in Country music, classics of the genre like If Teardrops Were Pennies and Heartaches Were Gold, The Last Thing On My Mind, and Holding On With Nothing Left To Hold On To, songs that have the same enduring beauty today as they did back then. In those years, she penned some of the great classics of Country music including Tennessee Mountain Home, Coat of Many Colours, Gypsy, Joe and, and Blue Ridge Mountain Boy and firmly established herself as a genius in the songwriting stakes. The late 1970s saw her move away from Country towards the pop field where she again enjoyed much success with some of her own songs like I Will Always Love You (A hit also for Whitney Houston). Hollywood came knocking on her door and she took lead roles in 9 To 5 and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. It immediately re-ignited the connection with her traditional country fans and Dolly was back in business. Margo O'Donnell, who has recorded with her in Nashville, said yesterday she was thrilled that Dolly was coming to perform in Ireland. "I was aware for some weeks that these shows were on the cards. I am privileged to call her a good friend. The Irish love Irish Love is the sixth of the Nuala Anne McGrail series of mystery novels by Roman Catholic priest and author Father Andrew M. Greeley.
