DOLLY, 95, WORLD'S OLDEST BARMAID; 69 years in same pub.

PULLING a pint like she has for the past 69 years, this is Dolly Saville, the world's oldest and longest-serving barmaid.

The 95-year-old has worked in the same pub since 1940 when her husband went off to war and she needed a job to support her family.

And she plans to keep on serving customers at the The Red Lion Hotel until she reaches 100.

Dolly, who has pulled two million pints, said: "I love it, you meet lovely people. It keeps my brain going. I'm so happy here. They'll have to carry me out."

During her time at the pub in Wendover, Bucks, Dolly has served a few celebs. She said: "Pierce Brosnan had lunch at the hotel while filming Bond. I made tea and toast for Ted Heath one chilly afternoon. Vera Lynn has also popped in to several times for lunch."

She may have been there 69 years, but Dolly at first snubbed the chance to work in the Red Lion when approached by the landlord in the street at the age of 26. The mum-of-two said: "I said no as I hadn't worked in a bar before. He later said, 'Why don't you give it a try?' So I said I would."

Until last year Dolly was still working six hours a day, six days a week. She has only had two weeks' sick leave.

Dolly now works just three shifts. But boss Stephen Arthur said: "She is remarkably speedy on her feet and runs rings round the youngsters."

Hideko Arima, who died in 2003, was formerly the world's oldest barmaid.

She worked at a Tokyo pub for 52 years until she was 101.
