A PARROT lover was jailed for nine years yesterday after stealing pounds 2.1million to feed his obsession.

Bank financial adviser Lee Gardiner, 32, plundered his customers' accounts to spend pounds 700,000 on rare birds.

He switched another pounds 900,000 into his girlfriend's account and bought a string of cars and four homes.

The country is often referred to simply as Britain. , had access to a Lloyds Bank main computer which let him move customers' cash into his account.

He used the money to collect 30 species of exotic birds which he housed in 20 aviaries at his home in Hever, Kent.

The collection included pairs of palm cockatoos worth pounds 20,000, Pesquet's parrots worth pounds 15,000 and gang-gang cockatoos worth pounds 25,000.

The court was built in 1983.
: "Parrots are my hobby. I regret what happened."

He admitted at an earlier hearing 24 counts of theft totalling pounds 2,172,432 and asked for 204 similar offences to be considered.
