SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - Sometimes, dog owner Renee Renee is a common female name in the United States and male name in Europe. Pronunciation: rε-'nei The word Renee can mean the following: reborn, born again. There is often an accent over the middle e, as in Renée.  Ostrove just wants to unleash Augie and let her go.

But because of a law that says dogs can't be unleashed at city parks, Augie and Ostrove are forced to sneak around in the early mornings, risking a $300 citation Citation

``We all hit the parks early in the morning, and we have a blast,'' Ostrove said. ``The dogs are not running off and hurting each other. They are playing, and we clean up after them.''

It's been years, but city dog owners may be a step closer to getting their own off-leash dog park one day, if funds become available.

Plans for an additional 38 acres at the George A. Caravalho Sports Complex include up to three sports fields, a larger skateboard park, a BMX BMX

facility and an off-leash dog area, among other features. The Parks and Recreation Commission may review the project in January.

Though city officials have said they are uncertain when construction at the complex will begin, dog owners said they are more than eager.

Last month, the Santa Clarita Dog Park Association, a 15-member group, presented the City Council with 2,000 signatures from dog owners who want a park.

They even proposed allowing off-leash hours at several parks as a temporary solution until the dog park at the complex was completed.

``If they really want to get away cheap, they could open some of the parks up for off-leash use early in the morning,'' Ostrove suggested.

said that, because of the city's growth, dogs are running out of space to hang out.

The dog park at the sports complex ``is fine with me. It'll be better than nothing,'' he said. ``I would really like a nice one, because it would be a showcase for the city.''

Parks and Recreation Commission Chairwoman Karin Nelson said it seemed the issue had come to the forefront more so in the last year.

She also said a temporary dog park could be unlikely.

``I think what we're doing is pretty much focusing on the sports complex,'' she said. ``Whether or not we can have a temporary park is uncertain. I know the community has been asking for one. I think everybody is excited about the possibility of a dog park. We are motivated mo·ti·vate
