And while he can't say how far in the competition he got, Gavin hopes to make an impact when the programme hits our screens next month.

And even though it's not the first time Gavin has showcased his musical talents, he's sure his audition will reach the biggest audience he's ever performed to.

He and his former band The Smooth appeared on stage at the Galpharm Stadium The Stadium

"I think my boss will understand and if it doesn't work out I hope they'll let me come back."

"I feel it's the right time too, it will give me a platform to show what I can do and how much I love it."

But more nerve-wracking was having to sing in front of Simon Cowell, popstar Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh.

He picked three songs to sing and while he can't say too much about his choice of songs, Simon Cowell did question it initially.

Gavin added: "It was an amazing experience and I can only hope for the best."

Greetland singer Nikk Mager appeared in last year's competition but failed to get through the first round.

Honley's Scott Hallas made it through to Boot Camp last year.
