DOE's DPO Project Ends 5-year Aluminum Study.


In November, at the last meeting for the U.S. Dept. of Energy's (DOE) U.S. Automotive Partnership Design and Product Optimization for Cast Light Metals (Chem.) the metallic elements of the alkali and alkaline earth groups, as sodium, lithium, calcium, magnesium, etc.; also, sometimes, the metals of the earths, as aluminium.

The program was focused on developing the design and capabilities of high-strength lightweight components for automobile chassis and body part applications. With the aluminum portion of the program completed (findings to be published by AFS in 2001), the follow-up project researching magnesium alloys has already begun.
