DODGERS TOUR WILL MAKE STOP AT HART CENTER.Byline: Daily News VALENCIA - The Los Angeles Dodgers will make a stop Tuesday in Santa Clarita, where stars of today and yesterday will visit the William S. Hart PONY Baseball and Softball Complex. As part of the inaugural Dodger Caravan, outfielder Milton Bradley, pitcher Jeff Weaver and 1974 National League Most Valuable Player Steve Garvey will be among those dropping off a $1,000 donation to the youth league in Valencia and putting on an hourlong baseball clinic. Also on the tour are announcers Al Downing, Pepe Yniguez and Charley Steiner, along with pitcher Kazuhisa Ishii; 1956 National League Most Valuable Player and Cy Young Award winner Don Newcombe; coach Glenn Hoffmann; and minor leaguers Chuck Tiffany and Delwyn Young. The caravan will run Monday and Tuesday and includes stops in South Los Angeles, the South Bay, West Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. The event will conclude Tuesday at Universal CityWalk with festivities beginning at 5 p.m and players set to arrive at 6 p.m. Fans attending the events have the opportunity to participate in question-and-answer sessions and receive autographs, according to the Dodgers. The Dodgers canceled their longtime winter workouts this year in favor of conducting the caravans in an attempt to build fan support. ``The Dodgers are intimately woven into the fabric of the Southern California community,'' owner Frank McCourt Jr. said. ``These caravans give us the opportunity to give back to our fans, to actually visit their communities and show our appreciation for their loyal support.'' |
