Fred McGriff
    Frederick Stanley "Crime Dog" McGriff (born October 31, 1963 in Tampa, Florida) is a former left-handed Major League Baseball player who starred for several teams from the mid-1980s until the early 2000s.
    , who agreed to a one-year deal last week to become the Dodgers' first baseman, passed his physical Friday in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  and signed for $3.75 million.

    The Dodgers believe McGriff, 39, is the missing hitter for the lineup and should provide protection for Shawn Green Shawn David Green (born November 10, 1972, in Des Plaines, Illinois) is a 6' 4" left-handed Major League Baseball player. Green is the starting right fielder for the New York Mets.[1]

    Green was a 1st round draft pick, and has been a two-time major league All-Star.

    McGriff's signing leaves Dodgers general manager Dan Evans with $3 million to $4 million to sign another bench player and a left-handed reliever. They continue to negotiate with the agent for free-agent infielder Rey Sanchez and are hopeful a deal will be struck soon. The Dodgers are also interested in free-agent left-handers Pedro Borbon and Mark Guthrie.
