DODGERS SIGN 20-YEAR DEAL WITH VERO BEACH.

The Dodgers have signed a deal with Vero Beach Vero Beach (vēr`o), city (1990 pop. 17,350), seat of Indian River co., E Fla., on Indian River (a lagoon and part of the Intracoastal Waterway); founded c.1888, inc. 1919. , Fla., and Indian River Indian River, lagoon, c.100 mi (160 km) long, E Fla., parallel to the east coast from N of Titusville to Stuart. Along the lagoon a variety of citrus and vegetable products are grown and transported by small boats to towns on its waterway and those further inland.  County (Fla.) to keep their spring-training home at Dodgertown for the next 20 years, a team official said.

 the local municipalities securing state funding. That's not expected to be a problem. Vero Beach and Indian River County must file their application for funding, which could reach $7.5 million, by Oct. 1. An answer is expected by the New Year. The total financial package put together by the local government is $20.5 million.

As part of the agreement, which stems from the ``memorandum of understanding'' all sides voted on during the summer, the Dodgers will sell the complex to the local municipalities and lease it back for $1 a year, a source said. Part of the complex was be renovated for baseball and baseball operations, and a local developer will build a ``town-plex'' on the remaining acreage.

The Dodgers have trained at Dodgertown since 1948, but in the past two years they have been courted by an Indian tribe INDIAN TRIBE. A separate and distinct community or body of the aboriginal Indian race of men found in the United States.
