Almost everyone in the Dodgers organization, from players to coaches to club officials, has spent the past three weeks scrunching their noses at the suggestion this team is in a free-fall.

In virtually every case, their rationale was to point to the standings, in which the Dodgers were safely perched atop the National League West.

Well, as of Sunday, when they suffered a lackluster 5-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves The Atlanta Braves are a professional baseball team based in Atlanta, Georgia. The Braves are a member of the Eastern Division of Major League Baseball's National League. From to the present, the Braves have played in Turner Field.  in front of a sellout crowd of 53,239 at Dodger Stadium     [ , they aren't atop the division anymore.

Try third place.

The Dodgers lost for the 14th time in 22 games and, in doing so, continued their maddening inability to push runs across.

They scored just two of them despite pounding out nine hits against celebrated Braves right-hander Tim Hudson Timothy Adam Hudson (born July 14, 1975 in Salem, Alabama[1] ) is a starting pitcher in Major League Baseball who plays for the Atlanta Braves. Hudson began his major league career with the Oakland Athletics (1999-2004) and played his last two years of college .

They also stranded 10 baserunners, six of them in scoring position In the sport of baseball, a baserunner is said to be in scoring position when he is on second or third base. The distinction between being on first base and second or third base is that a runner on first can usually only score if the batter hits an extra base hit, while a runner on , and left the bases loaded in the sixth.

They went a collective 2 for 15 with runners in scoring position.

And, for the first time, there were vague admissions inside the clubhouse that this team is in serious trouble, especially where its offense is concerned.

And the solution is as elusive as those key hits have been.

Early career  said. ``We just aren't getting runs in like we should be. We're getting guys on, but we're not crossing the plate like we should be or like we could be.''

In losing the final two games of their weekend series against the Braves, the Dodgers scored three runs.

The story Saturday night was a lack of opportunities - four Braves relievers held the Dodgers to four hits over the final 6 2/3 innings. The story in the finale, at least while the Dodgers were still in the game, was an inability to capitalize.

Kent took a called third strike with runners on the corners to end the third, an inning in which Oscar Robles Oscar M. Robles (b. April 9, 1976, in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico) has spent much of this decade as a third baseman for the Mexico City Red Devils (Diablos Rojos del México), and briefly as an infielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers from May 2005 through 2006.  bunted into a force at third.

Cesar Izturis grounded out with runners on first and second to end the fourth, an inning in which Scott Erickson

bunted into a force at third. Milton Bradley struck out to end the fifth with J.D. Drew on second.

And Robles Robles is a common surname in the Spanish language meaning oaks, and may refer to:

    • Aurora Robles (born 1980), Mexican fashion model
    • Charlie Robles (born 1943), Puerto Rican musician
grounded out to end the sixth with the bases loaded.

Once the Braves took their first lead, 3-2 on a solo homer by Andruw Jones leading off the seventh, the Dodgers were done.

They didn't get another hit the rest of the game and fell two spots in the standings.

The Dodgers (21-16) now trail Arizona by a game and San Diego by a half-game.

``That one key hit is something that has eluded us of late, very definitely,'' Dodgers manager Jim Tracy said. ``That's something we have to work through. It's something we have to remedy. But you just have to keep going at it.''

The Braves tied the score 2-2 on a two-run homer by Chipper Jones with two outs in the sixth, spoiling a solid performance by embattled veteran Scott Erickson. Wilson Alvarez (1-1) relieved to start the seventh and immediately gave up Andruw Jones' homer.

Hudson (4-2) wasn't his usual nasty self.

Only one of the two runs charged to him was earned.

John Foster pitched around a two-base error by Chipper Jones in the seventh, Jorge Sosa got the final two outs in the eighth, and Dan Kolb retired the Dodgers in order in the ninth for his 10th save. The first out of that inning was recorded when Izturis tried to bunt his way on, left the ball only inches in front of the plate and stood staring at it while catcher Johnny Estrada picked it up and tagged him with it.
