DODGERS NOTES : GAGNE PUTS ERRORS BEHIND HIM.

Greg Gagne Greg Gagne may refer to:
  • Greg Gagne (wrestler) (born 1948; family name (IPA pronunciation: ['gɔnjə])
, Dodgers savior and shortstop, made two errors Friday. Then he made two errors Sunday. Then he came home to the same 53,180 people who booed the last shortstop into Kansas City Kansas City, two adjacent cities of the same name, one (1990 pop. 149,767), seat of Wyandotte co., NE Kansas (inc. 1859), the other (1990 pop. 435,146), Clay, Jackson, and Platte counties, NW Mo. (inc. 1850). .

Remember, this is the guy who, offered a two-year contract, signed for one year instead because he wasn't sure if he would like Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. . Ironic, then, that he was introduced Monday afternoon, wondering if the town would like him.

Asked if he was curious about the reception, Gagne smiled and said, ''No. I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

. Well, a little bit, probably. Yeah.``

Remember, too, that among Gagne's closest friends is Gary Gaetti
Gary Joseph Gaetti (born August 19, 1958 in Centralia, Illinois), nicknamed "G-Man" ("Rat" or "Zorn" during his earlier days), is an American former third baseman in Major League Baseball for the Minnesota Twins (1981-90), California Angels (1991-93), Kansas City Royals
. Gaetti had some defensive problems not far from here, and he, too, ended up in Kansas City.

''I got off to kind of a slow start last year, defensively,`` said Gagne, who had 18 errors last season. ''I don't like the beginning of things, anyway. I like the middle and the end.

''It's the kind of thing you just have to go through. It kind of stinks while you're going through it, but you put up with it. Whatever happened in Chicago, that's done away with. But, I'll tell you, it isn't fun at the time.``

He is 15 for 34.

He has 15 singles. Infield singles. Flares. Bloops. Liners. Grounders. Name 'em, he's got at least one.

The man has 156 extra-base hits in barely three years, and suddenly he's Felix Millan.

''I'm trying,`` Piazza said with a laugh. ''I guess you can get someone else to try, but I'm trying. I guarantee by the end of August I'll be screaming for those singles.``

Piazza's lack of pop has become something of a joke around the clubhouse, especially after wins.

''I'm going to get on him a little bit,`` second baseman Delino DeShields said. ''Your average is high enough, now it's time to get airborne.``

Said Piazza: ''I agree with him. I just wish my bat would cooperate. I guess I'm a Punch and Judy Punch and Judy, famous English puppet play, very popular with children and given widely by strolling puppet players, especially during the Christmas season. It came to England in the 17th cent.  hitter.``
