The trio will meet again this weekend to determine the fate of Lasorda, who, in his 20th season as the club's manager, suffered a heart attack and one month ago underwent an angioplasty.

Earlier Friday, Lasorda met with his three physicians, who revealed to him the results of Thursday's critical examination. Dr. Michael Mellman was to present to O'Malley a long-term recommendation Friday concerning Lasorda's ability to return to the bench.

Lasorda claimed he was not privy to Mellman's recommendation, despite the two-hour meeting. Neither O'Malley nor Claire would reveal the nature of the meeting.

Lasorda said that the medical report presented to him showed he was healthy. Asked when he would return to his duties, Lasorda said, ``Naturally, sometime before Monday.''

The Dodgers begin a six-game homestand Tuesday.

He also was vague regarding Friday night's meeting topics.

``We discussed a lot of different things,'' Lasorda said. ``We didn't just discuss me. We discussed the team.''

Asked if, during the meeting, the subject of another position within the organization was discussed, Lasorda laughed and said, ``We didn't get that far.''

``Fred and I have talked about Billy over the last several months,'' Moorad said Friday. ``Billy's absolute first choice would be to play regularly in L.A. for a Dodger organization he's been part of for nine years. In the event the organization chose to move in another direction, Billy would have mixed feelings, but would welcome an opportunity to play every day, even if it meant moving on.''

Claire, who was in Los Angeles on Friday, could not be reached for comment.
