DODGERS NOTEBOOK: WALK THIS WAY: DODGERS' ZEILE HAS A SHARP EYE.

Byline: Kevin Acee Daily News Staff Writer

Todd Zeile
Todd Edward Zeile (born September 9, 1965 in Van Nuys, California) is a former third baseman and first baseman in Major League Baseball who played from 1989 to 2004.
has always walked a lot, like 60 or 65 times a year during his seven full major-league seasons. He has 61 bases on balls already this season, a pace that could put him near 90 by season's end Season's End are a British band based in Hampshire. They describe themselves as playing Progressive symphonic metal[1], although they are often tagged as a gothic metal band by reviewers and reference sources[2][3]. .

The benefit of that many walks? Zeile's .234 batting average batting average

``I've got to find some way to get on,'' said Zeile, who has hit in the No. 6 spot in the order much of the season. ``Being down in the order, in a lot of RBI RBI

situations, pitchers are a little more careful. I wasn't walking as much in when I was batting second.''

Indeed. What walking doesn't help is run production. Zeile is hitting .173 (18 for 104) with runners in scoring position In the sport of baseball, a baserunner is said to be in scoring position when he is on second or third base. The distinction between being on first base and second or third base is that a runner on first can usually only score if the batter hits an extra base hit, while a runner on .

Coming along? Ramon Martinez Ramon Martinez is the name of several people:
    • Ramon Martinez (fencing instructor), a fencing instructor in New York City
    • Ramón Martínez (baseball infielder)
    • Ramón Martínez (baseball pitcher), brother of Pedro Martinez
will make his fourth rehabilitation start Saturday for Single-A San Bernardino against Stockton.

The Dodgers had held some hope that Martinez would return after three rehabs. But he lasted just 43 pitches (three innings) Monday in Cooperstown. Martinez needs to be able last six innings before he can rejoin the Dodgers.

``I don't think we're progressing at a slow rate,'' team physical therapist Pat Screnar said. ``We're progressing at Ramon's rate.''

Streaker: Raul Mondesi extended his hitting streak to nine games with a single on Wednesday. Already this season, Mondesi has streaks of 14 games (July 12-25) and 11 games (April 18-30).

    ``He's a streaky streak·y

player,'' Dodgers manager Bill Russell said.

Mondesi is hitting a little better in his current run than he did in his 14-game streak, in which he batted .293. He is hitting .500 (18 of 36) in the past nine games.

Also: Wayne Kirby's single in the ninth inning was his first hit in 12 pinch-hit at-bats this season. . . . Save for two crucial (and successful) appearances at Atlanta, Mark Guthrie has been reduced to something of a mop-up man. He was just that again Wednesday, coming in in the sixth inning with the Dodgers down 6-1. He allowed a run on a walk and a triple. He has 20 earned runs in his past 20 appearances (24 innings). . . . Two nights in a row, the Dodgers and Expos played for exactly three hours.
