DODGERS NOTEBOOK: TWO PITCHERS ARE FREE AGENTS.Byline: Tony Jackson
Anthony (Antonio) Jackson, best known as Tony Jackson Staff Writer Dodgers relievers Giovanni Carrara Giovanni Carrara [car-RAH-ra] (born March 4, 1968 in AnzoĆ”tegui State, Venezuela) is a relief pitcher in Major League Baseball who most recently pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Carrara bats and throws right handed. He has established himself as a valuable middle relief man. and Kelly Wunsch Kelly Douglas Wunsch (born July 12, 1972, in Houston, Texas) is a Major League Baseball left-handed pitcher. He is an alumnus of Texas A&M University. Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 1st round of the 1993 MLB amateur draft, Wunsch would make his Major League became free agents on Monday when they declined outright assignments to the minor leagues after clearing waivers. But Dodgers general manager Paul DePodesta Paul DePodesta (born December 16, 1972) is baseball front-office assistant for the San Diego Padres. He has also served as general manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers from February 16, 2004 to October 29, 2005. said he still hopes to keep both of the veterans. ``I would absolutely have interest in re-signing each guy,'' DePodesta said. The moves were made to clear 40-man roster spots in advance of December's Rule 5 draft. Any player signed out of high school who has completed four full professional seasons and any player signed out of college who has completed three is subject to being lost to the Rule 5 draft unless they are protected on the 40-man roster before the Nov. 18 deadline. The Dodgers have cleared four such spots by losing Carrara to free agency, losing catcher Mike Rose to a waiver claim by Tampa Bay Tampa Bay, inlet of the Gulf of Mexico, 25 mi (40 km) long and 7 to 12 mi (11.3–19 km) wide, W Fla., separated from the Gulf by numerous small islands; it receives the Hillsborough River. St. and outrighting minor-league pitchers Ryan Ketchner Ryan Patrick Ketchner (born April 19, 1982 in Wellsville, New York) is a left-handed pitcher in the San Diego Padres organization. Ketchner was a 10th-round pick out of high school in 2000 by the Seattle Mariners and was acquired by the Dodgers in a spring training trade in and Derek Thompson. Wunsch was on the 60-day disabled list after season-ending ankle surgery in July. One fringe benefit to the moves is that Carrara and Wunsch were two of the Dodgers' five arbitration-eligible players, a fact that now is rendered moot because the only way the Dodgers can retain them is by agreeing to new contract terms. Two of the other arbitration-eligibles are Milton Bradley, who clearly will be traded or non-tendered because club officials have grown weary of his unpredictable behavior; and Jason Phillips, whom the Dodgers will try to trade because he no longer has a place on the team with Dioner Navarro expected to be the everyday catcher and club officials hoping to re-sign free agent Paul Bako as the backup. That would leave Hee-Seop Choi as the Dodgers' only arbitration-eligible player this winter. Wunsch made $550,000 last season, while Carrara was paid $500,000.
