Sheffield injured his thumb sliding into third base on a stolen base in the third inning. Last season, Sheffield was placed on the 15-day disabled list with an injury to his left thumb.

Mondesi returned to the lineup Friday after fouling a pitch off his left ankle Thursday night.

Mondesi was removed from the final game of the Florida series in the fifth inning and taken to Centinela Hospital Medical Center for precautionary x-rays, which were negative.

Batting practice was canceled Friday because of the Sutton retirement ceremony, so Sheffield and Mondesi did not arrive at Dodger Stadium     [  until 5:30 p.m.
