DODGERS NOTEBOOK: SORE ELBOW PUTS ACE ON DL AGAIN.

Byline: Jill Painter Staff Writer

The Dodgers couldn't wait for Kevin Brown The name Kevin Brown can refer to several different people, including the following:
  • Kevin Brown (baseball) (b. 1965), a former Major League Baseball right-handed starting pitcher with 211 career wins
  • Kevin D. Brown (b.
 this time.

Brown, who experienced pain in his right elbow and lasted just 20 pitches in Sunday's start at Arizona, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a posterior medial sprain sprain, stretching or wrenching of the ligaments and tendons of a joint, often with rupture of the tissues but without dislocation. Sprains occur most commonly at the ankle, knee, or wrist joints, causing pain, swelling, and difficulty in moving the involved joint.  of the elbow.

Dr. Frank Jobe examined Brown's elbow before Monday's game and determined he wouldn't be able to make his scheduled start Saturday or possibly the next one either.

Brown isn't sure how the latest injury to his elbow occurred.

``I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

"Don't know the trade." A Street expression used whenever one party lacks knowledge of a trade or receives conflicting instructions from the other party.
, that's just it,'' Brown said. ``You go from feeling so good one day to so bad the next. (We're) just trying to figure out exactly what's wrong and put the pieces together and maybe figure out what happened.''

The severity of the injury to his surgically repaired elbow - the same one that sent him to the disabled list last month - isn't believed to be serious and Jobe hopes today's MRI 1. (application) MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
2. MRI - Measurement Requirements and Interface.
 will confirm that.

Still, with the state of the taxed bullpen, the Dodgers couldn't hesitate.

``We had the luxury of waiting last time Kevin was hurt, but this time we don't have that ability,'' Dodgers general manager Dan Evans said. ``We're all pulling for him. We hope (today's) exam goes well. We're all rooting for him. We root for this guy every time he's on the field.''

This is the second time this season - and fifth in the last two seasons - that Brown, 38, has been placed on the disabled list. When Brown went on the disabled list April 20 with a right elbow injury, the team waited to make a move because the starters were pitching deep into games and the bullpen was fresh.

Brown felt discomfort in his warmup session before Sunday's game.

``I was hoping it was just stiffness and that it would get better, but that didn't turn out to be the case,'' he said.

There's speculation that Brown is calling the shots where his elbow is concerned.

``If there had been anything to indicate that he shouldn't have made the start, he wouldn't have made the start,'' Evans said.

Jobe believes Brown has a pinched synovium, which is the lining of the joint, and a sprained capsule, which is the area surrounding the ligament. He believes the ligament is fine and that one stint on the 15-day disabled list should be enough recovery time.

``It doesn't hurt exactly in one spot,'' Jobe said. ``We don't really know how he did it. In Milwaukee, he was throwing really good. Maybe he slept on it wrong. He doesn't seem to think it was one pitch that hurt him, and that's another reason to think that this isn't a surgical thing.''

Brown said he understood the club's decision. The Dodgers had no other choice, especially after Sunday's bind in which the bullpen threw 194 of 215 pitches after Brown left after just two-thirds of an inning.
