DODGERS NOTEBOOK: RUSSELL SHAKES UP THE LINEUP.

Byline: Eric Noland Daily News Staff Writer

As part of his ongoing attempt to find some magical formula For the Swiss zauberformel, see .
A magical formula, also spelled, is generally a word whose meaning illustrates principles and degrees of understanding that are often difficult to relay using other forms of speech or writing.

Todd Edward Zeile (born September 9, 1965 in Van Nuys, California) is a former third baseman and first baseman in Major League Baseball who played from 1989 to 2004.
, who customarily bats sixth, moved up to the No. 2 spot.

Also, center fielder Brett Butler, just back from a stay on the disabled list, was given a night's rest, with Roger Cedeno taking over in center and in the leadoff role.

Of the new lineup job, Zeile said, ``I did it a lot in Baltimore. I'm generally a selective hitter. (Despite a .224 average, he entered the game with the team lead in walks, with 29.) If somebody's on in front of me, more than likely I'll give them pitches to run on because I'll take a pitch. I can hit-and-run. And the guys behind me might get more fastballs to hit.''

Russell, who has used 37 different lineups in 59 games this year, admitted that the latest wrinkle was employed ``just to shake it up a little bit.''

As for Butler's absence, the manager said it was unrelated to the sore shoulder that landed the veteran outfielder on the disabled list in May. ``He's fine, but he's played a lot,'' Russell said. ``Being out as long as he has, and playing every inning, we needed to give him a night (off).''

In any language: One day after Chan Ho Park lost 3-1 to St. Louis, the Dodgers publicity staff provided a translated game story from the Korea Central Daily.

Apparently, the Dodgers offense is an easy target in that country, too. The account read, in part: ``Allowing three solo home runs and receiving minimal run support . . .''

Tiger bait: Dodgers bullpen coach Mark Cresse thoroughly enjoyed Louisiana State's College World Series championship Saturday - son Brad is a freshman catcher with the Tigers.

Said Cresse: ``Eric Karros got on me at the beginning of the year. He stood up at a team meeting in Vero Beach and said that UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
(Karros' alma mater) was ranked No. 1 in a preseason poll and LSU LSU Louisiana State University
    LSU Large Subunit
LSU La Salle University (Philadelphia, PA)
    LSU La Sierra University
    LSU Link State Update (OSPF)
    LSU Learning Support Unit
     was 13th.

``It's kind of been verbal abuse verbal abuse Psychology A form of emotional abuse consisting of the use of abusive and demeaning language with a spouse, child, or elder, often by a caregiver or other person in a position of power. Timing is all: Juan Castro says he is nearly recovered from the sprained knee that sent him to the 15-day disabled list on Thursday. If not for that injury, suffered sliding into a base, he would have had an invaluable eight games to fill in for the suspended Wilton Guerrero at second base.

Castro suffered the injury three games after Guerrero's suspension for a corked bat began.

``That's bad luck,'' Castro said, then caught himself: ``Not bad luck. These things happen and there's nothing you can do about it. You just keep your head up and try to get back out there as fast as you can.''
