Dodgers rookie pitcher Chad Billingsley Chad Ryan Billingsley (born July 29, 1984, in Defiance, Ohio) is a Major League Baseball right-handed pitcher with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Biography
As a senior at Defiance High School in 2003, pitched in 11 games and was 6-1 with a 1.
was told by manager Grady Little William Grady Little (born March 30, 1950 in Abilene, Texas) is a manager in Major League Baseball. He guided the Boston Red Sox from 2002 to 2003, and has been manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers since 2006.  on Saturday that he will make his next scheduled start Tuesday night against Florida.

Little wouldn't commit to anything beyond that, saying the depth of starting pitchers on his staff will allow him to mix and match for the rest of the season if a particular pitcher has been especially successful against an opposing club.

``That will be the key thing we will look at from here on out,'' Little said. ``But this can only happen when you have quality pitching and depth in your starting rotation. We have the ability to do that.''

Besides the current rotation of Billingsley, Mark Hendrickson Mark Allan Hendrickson (born June 23, 1974 in Mount Vernon, Washington, U.S.) is an American professional athlete and is one of just 10 athletes to play in both Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association. , Brad Penny Bradley Wayne Penny[1] (born May 24, 1978 in Blackwell, Oklahoma)[2] is a starting pitcher in Major League Baseball for the Los Angeles Dodgers.[3] Early career , Greg Maddux Gregory Alan Maddux (born April 14, 1966) is a pitcher for the San Diego Padres. His family moved to Poulsbo, Washington, a Scandinavian town on the Kitsap Peninsula, where Aaron pitched for North Kitsap High School.
and Brett Tomko and another soon to come off the disabled list in Elmer Dessens.

Little and pitching coach Rick Honeycutt reiterated to Billingsley the importance of pitch efficiency after the control-challenged right-hander threw 96 pitches in just five innings Thursday against Colorado. Little hinted the next day Billingsley might not make his next start, but then decided that he would.

``I need to pitch more to contact and maybe get some quicker innings,'' Billingsley said. ``I'm just battling myself. I just need trust my stuff and say: `Here's the ball, hit it.'''

Minor deal: One of the Dodgers' call-ups for the September roster expansion became clear when the club purchased the contract of veteran catcher Einar Diaz from Cleveland and assigned him to Triple-A LasVegas, where he will split time behind the plate with Edwin Bellorin.

Diaz, who had spent the entire season with the Indians' Triple-A Buffalo affiliate, was brought in as insurance in case either Russell Martin or Toby Hall gets injured.

``If this was September 1, we would call him up,'' Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said. ``I think you always need a third catcher in September.''

Diaz, 33, has spent at least part of each of his 10 seasons in the big leagues, seven of them with the Indians. He batted .218 in 64 games for Buffalo this year, with three homers and 29 RBIs.

Veterans out: First baseman Nomar Garciaparra and second baseman Jeff Kent, both of whom came off the disabled list within the past week, were out of Saturday's starting lineup, something Little said was a precautionary measure with the Dodgers playing a day game after a night game.
