``They wanted some time to go out and (scout) those players and assess some health concerns,'' Dodgers general manager Paul DePodesta Paul DePodesta (born December 16, 1972) is baseball front-office assistant for the San Diego Padres.

said. ``There's no question that they got a good pitcher. We obviously have (Edwin) Jackson, (Joel) Hanrahan and (Greg) Miller, so it's hard to say when (Brown) would have been here. But I believe he will pitch in the big leagues, although it's hard to say when.

The 6-foot-6 Brown was 1-3 with a 4.02 ERA for Double-A Jacksonville (Fla.) this season. He was in spring training with the Dodgers and impressed manager Jim Tracy

``Very much so,'' Tracy said. ``From the standpoint of coming down off the slope and delivering the ball, it's like hitting against (Guillermo) Mota or Randy Johnson

The move provides needed 40-man roster flexibility for the Dodgers, who had been carrying the full 40 since acquiring Bradley.

--Gaining steam: One day after calling some of the nine home runs hit in Tuesday's game at Citizens Bank Park questionable, Tracy had even harsher words for the place before the Dodgers' second game there.

``I have never seen anything like it,'' Tracy said. ``It reminds me an awful lot of Coors Field with less outfield, and that's a bad combination. I sat in my room and contemplated what we had gone through. The ball generally travels farther after the weather warms up, but if (Tuesday) night was any indication of what it will be like when the weather warms up, this will not be a very good place to pitch.''

is a bad park that makes a mockery of the game or just a different type of park that requires clubs to adjust, Tracy was noncommittal but pointedly so.

``It remains to be seen,'' he said. ``If balls continue to fly like we saw, this will not be an attractive place to consider coming to and pitching, I can tell you that. Conversely, it's as pretty a park as any I can think of. But if the ball flies like that and you can get penalized pe·nal·ize

for throwing a great pitch, that's not a good feeling.''

--Injury updates: Left fielder Dave Roberts isn't expected to come off the 15-day disabled list today when he becomes eligible, but that doesn't mean he has suffered a setback while rehabilitating his strained right hamstring.

``The likelihood of that happening is very unlikely,'' Tracy said. ``He still has some things to do from a running standpoint. It's just a gradual progression to where he needs to get in order for us to consider reactivating him, and he isn't there yet.''

Outfielder Jayson Werth, meanwhile, went 1 for 2 in the second game of his rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas. Werth has been out since the second day of the season with an oblique strain and should return in the next two weeks.

Right fielder Juan Encarnacion (sore left shoulder) returned to the lineup after missing the previous four starts.
