on Dodgers pitcher Randy Wolf's left shoulder Thursday revealed an impingement -- a pinching, in layman's terms. Wolf was given a cortisone cortisone (kôr`tĭsōn'), steroid hormone whose main physiological effect is on carbohydrate metabolism. It is synthesized from cholesterol in the outer layer, or cortex, of the adrenal gland under the stimulation of adrenocorticotropic  shot and anti-inflammatory medication and restricted from throwing until after the All-Star break.

All in all, though, it could have been worse.

"It's always kind of nervewracking when you have the first MRI on your shoulder, because you don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

what they're going to find," Wolf said.

"It's definitely good news. Everything looked good except for some inflammation of the chromium. The good news was that (the doctors) were pleased at how good my shoulder looked for this being my ninth season in the big leagues."

Although all indications are Wolf will be ready to come off the 15-day disabled list when he becomes eligible July 19, neither Wolf nor trainer Stan Conte was willing to say that.

"The most important thing is to take some time off throwing and make sure the inflammation goes down before throwing again," Wolf said. "If I don't get it taken care of now, I will pay for it down the road."

Conte said Wolf definitely won't throw off a mound before the Dodgers begin the second half next Friday Next Friday is the 2000 sequel to Friday , which depicts the neighborhood of South Los Angeles in a comedic sense. Beimel update: Dodgers reliever Joe Beimel Joseph Ronald Beimel (born April 19, 1977) is a relief pitcher for the Major League Baseball Los Angeles Dodgers. High school/college years
Beimel attended St. Marys Area High School and was a letterman in football, wrestling, basketball, and baseball.
has been released. From the hospital, that is. Beimel, admitted with heart palpitations Tuesday evening, was sent home Thursday but won't rejoin the team until tonight's game with Florida, for which he has been cleared to pitch.

"He will be back to normal activity, is my understanding," Dodgers manager Grady Little said.

"I don't know if they know why, exactly (he suffered palpitations). All they know is it's back to normal now, and that's the main thing. I'm sure it's not something they will just (ignore). It's something he has to keep an eye on to watch.

Sage advice: Little said he had a talk with right-hander Brad Penny a couple of weeks ago -- well before Penny officially knew he was an All-Star, even though it was fairly obvious he would be -- and told him not to try to hit 98-99 mph on the radar gun when he pitches in this year's Midsummer Classic.

Penny did exactly that in last year's All-Star Game, which he started for the National League because he had gone 10-2 with a 2.91 ERA the first half. He then went 6-7 with a 6.25 after the break.

"He promised me he wouldn't do that in this game," Little said.
