DODGERS NOTEBOOK: NO MORE RELIEF FOR DREIFORT.

Byline: Marc J. Spears Daily News Staff Writer

It wasn't long ago that Darren Dreifort
Darren James Dreifort (born May 3, 1972 in Wichita, Kansas) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher whose career was cut short by numerous injuries. He announced his retirement officially on February 23, 2006 after playing his entire professional career with the Los
owned a 0-4 record as a starter, struggled in the middle innings and was being questioned about whether he should be sent back to the bullpen.

Today, the former reliever could reach the .500 mark with a victory over the Colorado Rockies For the National Hockey League team (1976 – 1982), now known as the New Jersey Devils, see .
The Colorado Rockies are a Major League Baseball team based in Denver, Colorado. They are in the West Division of the National League.
    .

On May 11, Dreifort was 0-4 with a 4.61 ERA. But since then, the right-hander has dropped his ERA 1.05 points and improved his record to 4-5.

Pitching coach Goose Gregson isn't surprised by Dreifort's turnaround. Gregson says the 26-year-old has progressively gotten stronger as a starter, uses both sides of the plate more effectively and is using his pitches better. Dreifort is also 4-1 with a 2.41 ERA in his past five starts since reuniting with Charles Johnson Charles Johnson may refer to:

``I've always felt that (Dreifort) has the stuff to be a workhorse starter,'' said Gregson. ``He is a big, strong guy with a great work ethic work ethic

``Those guys are hard to find out there. I've always felt more comfortable with him as a starter than a reliever.''

While reaching .500 could be a great landmark for Dreifort, he says he hasn't thought much about it.

``It is more important that we win the ballgame,'' said Dreifort. ``whether it's with me or with the bullpen. I'm not really concerned about it.''

Karros conference: After much ado about his recovery from his knee injury, Eric Karros
Eric Peter Karros (born November 4, 1967 in Hackensack, New Jersey) is a former American baseball player who played in Major League Baseball from 1991-2004. Karros attended UCLA, where he receieved a degree in economics. Karros played his first MLB game on September 1, 1991.

The first baseman has kept a limp, described Advil as ``candy'' to him and has said his knee might never be the same and he should have rehabbed longer. On Friday, he arrived at Dodger Stadium     [  five hours before the game to receive about two hours' worth of treatment, but he says he is progressing. He also said he wasn't planning on taking a stretch of games off, but he will rest when his knee isn't cooperating.

      ``I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

"Don't know the trade." A Street expression used whenever one party lacks knowledge of a trade or receives conflicting instructions from the other party.
how much a difference it would make (if I rested),'' said Karros, who missed the season's first 21 games after having left-knee surgery. ``It's my choice.''
