Jeff Kent Jeffrey Franklin Kent (born March 7, 1968 in Bellflower, California) is a Major League Baseball player for the Los Angeles Dodgers and a former MVP winner. Early career  is expected to return from the 15-day disabled list in time for Monday night's homestand opener with Colorado.

Kent lobbied manager Grady Little William Grady Little (born March 30, 1950 in Abilene, Texas) is a manager in Major League Baseball. He guided the Boston Red Sox from 2002 to 2003, and has been manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers since 2006.  to be activated on Saturday, but Little opted to play it safe because it was Kent's premature comeback three weeks ago that aggravated his left oblique injury and landed him on the DL in the first place.

``He has been talking about it for a couple of days,'' Little said. ``If everything continues (to go) well and he isn't in the game Monday, he will probably come in there with some kind of shotgun or something. It won't be a casual conversation. But for now, I feel comfortable with a couple additional days.''

Kent missed the final six games before the All-Star break, getting scratched from at least a couple of them just before game time.

He returned immediately after the break and went 3 for 16 with four strikeouts before the injury cropped up again, landing Kent on the DL for the second time this season.

``He is chomping at the bit,'' Little said. ``But this time around, I want to make (darn) sure he is ready to go before I put him back in there.''

Little also said club officials are optimistic that first baseman Nomar Garciaparra Anthony Nomar Garciaparra[1] (born July 23, 1973, in Whittier, California) is a Mexican-American baseball player who currently plays third base for the Los Angeles Dodgers.  (right knee) can return when he becomes eligible Wednesday.

Lugo ready: One day after meeting with infielder Julio Lugo Julio Cesar Lugo (born on November 16, 1975 in Barahona, Dominican Republic) is a major league shortstop for the Boston Red Sox. He bats and throws right-handed. Lugo is the older brother of baseball pitcher Ruddy Lugo.  to gauge his interest in playing the outfield for the first time in five years, Little said he planned to start Lugo in center today, part of a plan to stack his lineup with right-handed hitters against Florida lefty Scott Olsen.

But after watching Lugo work more defensive magic at second base in the Dodgers' 10-2 win over the Marlins, Little changed his mind, saying Lugo will stay where he is.

Instead, utility infielder Ramon Martinez will make his first outfield appearance, his first since 2002. Martinez will start in right, with Jason Repko in center.

Little said it's still possible that Lugo, who expressed reservations about the outfield but was willing to try it, will see action there this season. Little also said he plans to use Lugo some at third base, where he never has played in his major-league career.

Olsen is holding lefties to a .160 average.

Dessens improving: Reliever Elmer Dessens wasn't expected to be available until today, but he was feeling better. Dessens twisted his left ankle while shagging Shagging may refer to:
