DENVER -- There is an ancient adage in baseball that says you can't hide a player who is struggling. No matter where you put him in the lineup or on the field, somehow, the game will always find him.

The game found Dodgers center fielder Andruw Jones Andruw Rudolf Jones (born April 23, 1977 in Willemstad, Netherlands Antilles) is a baseball player who will be a free agent after the World Series. From 1996 until 2007, Jones played for the Atlanta Braves, a Major League Baseball franchise.  yet again in the eighth inning on Wednesday, when he came to the plate with his club trailing Colorado 5-3 and the tying runs on second and third with one out. In the only result anyone could have possibly predicted, Jones struck out for the 29th time in 51 at-bats this season with runners in scoring position In the sport of baseball, a baserunner is said to be in scoring position when he is on second or third base. The distinction between being on first base and second or third base is that a runner on first can usually only score if the batter hits an extra base hit, while a runner on .

Jones has four hits with runners in scoring position for the season. He is batting .166 overall, with 12 RBIs.

After the game, Jones denied the suggestion he had made a mistake by ending his minor-league rehabilitation assignment after just three days at Triple-A Las Vegas Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States. , a response to left fielder JuanPierre being shelved with a left knee injury. Jones had planned to stay with the 51s through the All-Star break, not only to get his surgically repaired right knee healthy but also to work on his hitting. Instead, at his own suggestion to management, Jones was activated on July 4.

Since then, he is batting .167 (8 for 48) in 16 games.

"I could have benefitted from some more at-bats in Triple-A and maybe gotten some more strength," Jones said. "But the team needed another bat, and I felt like I could still work on some stuff up here, too."

If nothing else, Jones has been doing that. He is working extensively with hitting coach Don Mattingly
Donald Arthur Mattingly (nicknamed "Donnie Baseball" and "The Hit Man") (born April 20, 1961) is a retired first baseman who played for the New York Yankees of the American League from 1982-1995. He is currently the Bench Coach for the Yankees.
and extra coach Jeff Pentland Jeffrey William Pentland (born September 8, 1946 in Hollywood, California) is the hitting coach for the Seattle Mariners. 2006 is his tenth season as a Major League Baseball hitting coach and first with the Mariners. , who also worked with Jones in Las Vegas.

"He is making progress, but I know it doesn't always show up on the field," said Pentland, who cited Jones' RBI RBI

You have to trust your swing. When you have an injury, nothing feels right, especially when it's in your back knee."
