DODGERS NOTEBOOK: HUBBARD WON'T BE FOOLED AGAIN.

Byline: Matt McHale Daily News Staff Writer

Trenidad Hubbard Trenidad Aviel Hubbard (born Trent Hubbard[1], May 11, 1966, in Chicago, Illinois) was a Major League Baseball journeyman outfielder. He is an alumnus of Southern University and A&M College.  stopped worrying about next year long ago.

He doesn't step to the plate wondering if he needs a hit to extend his major-league career. And Hubbard knows that hitting a game-winning home run like the one Sunday that helped the Dodgers beat Shawn Estes Aaron Shawn Estes (born February 18, 1973 in San Bernardino, California, USA) is a pitcher for the San Diego Padres. Estes had his best season as a professional in 1997, when he went 19-5 with a 3.18 ERA for the San Francisco Giants.  and the San Francisco Giants The San Francisco Giants are a Major League Baseball team based in San Francisco, California that currently play in the National League West Division. ``To me, all that matters is doing well in each at-bat or learning something if I don't,'' said Hubbard, who is playing with his fourth team in three years. ``I hit an inside fastball that he struck me out on when we played them in L.A. (Sept. 4). I guess he thought he could get me again.''

Hubbard was just the second batter of the game when he went deep on Estes' 3-2 fastball. But the run stood up when Carlos Perez pitched nine scoreless innings INNINGS, estates. Hubbard, 32, finished the game 1 for 3 and is hitting .311 (38 for 122) in his last 31 starts. Overall, he is batting Batting has several meanings:

After Raul Mondesi asked to return to right field three weeks ago, Hubbard has taken over in center, but knows his future is as a role player.

``Hard work and preparation are the keys to success whether it is as a starter or bench player,'' Hubbard said. ``Preparation is remembering what a pitcher did against you the last time and making the adjustment.''

Estes best: Hubbard wasn't the only one to show improvement since the Dodgers-Giants series earlier this month. Estes, who missed a month with a sore left shoulder, looked Sunday like the pitcher who won 19 games for the Giants last season.

Estes (7-12) allowed just one hit after Hubbard's homer, a one-out single to Eric Karros
