DODGERS NOTEBOOK: GOING AGAINST A LEFTY, TRACY SHUFFLES LINEUP.

Byline: Steve Dilbeck Staff Writer

Another day, another lineup. A really different lineup.

Rookie Dodgers manager Jim Tracy
This article is about the baseball manager. For the member of the Tennessee Senate, see Jim Tracy (politician).
James Edwin Tracy (born December 31 1955 in Hamilton, Ohio) is a former manager in Major League Baseball who most recently led the Pittsburgh
showed early he'll be anything but afraid to juggle his starting unit. With left-hander Randy Johnson

starting for the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, Tracy came back with only four starters from Monday's season opener against right-hander Jamey Wright Jamey Alan Wright (born December 24, 1974 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) is an American Major League Baseball relief pitcher for the Texas Rangers organization. He bats and throws right handed. .

Gone were Tom Goodwin
Thomas Jones Goodwin (born July 27, 1968 in Fresno, California) is a former Major League Baseball player. He attended Central Union High School in Fresno, and then went on to play for Fresno State University. He is currently the manager of the Lewisville Lizards.

He is an alumnus of Loyola Marymount University where he was a standout for the Lions' baseball team. , Chad Kreuter Chadden Michael Kreuter (born August 26 1964 in Greenbrae, California) is a former catcher in Major League Baseball and the current head coach of the USC Trojans baseball team.  and Alex Cora José Alexander (Alex) Cora (born October 18, 1975 in Caguas, Puerto Rico) is a utility infielder for the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball. University of Miami career . In the lineup instead were the right-handed bats of center fielder Marquis Grissom, third baseman Jeff Reboulet, catcher Paul LoDuca and shortstop Tim Bogar. The heart of the lineup returned, but right fielder Shawn Green was the only left-handed bat in the lineup.

Tracy wouldn't commit to whether this would be his lineup for all left- handers or special for Johnson.

    ``It's tonight's lineup,'' Tracy said.

--Not yet for Orel: The Dodgers' hope that Orel Hershiser would return to the organization mostly to work with minor-league pitchers has been put on hold.

Hershiser, who retired in the offseason, already has signed with ESPN ESPN Entertainment and Sports Programming Network  as a color commentator and worked Tuesday's opener in Cincinnati.

``We had several discussions with Orel,'' senior vice president of communications Derrick Hall said. ``We were very much interested in having him return as a Dodger, as was he.

``Orel gave it much thought and his broadcasting commitment precludes him from doing anything at this time.''

--Headed for rehab: Dave Hansen, who figured to be the Dodgers' starting third baseman after Adrian Beltre ruptured his appendix until he broke the finger on his middle hand after one spring game, will make a rehab assignment before joining the Dodgers.

Hansen is swinging a bat but has yet to actually hit a baseball. He is expected to return within 10 days to two weeks - after the rehab stint.

``I just think it's only fair to him,'' Tracy said. ``He missed the entire spring training. We've talked to him about that.''

Hansen said he's prepared to face live pitching in a minor-league game before joining the Dodgers, despite his eagerness to get a chance at starting.

``I was all fired up to fill that spot,'' Hansen said. ``I had myself mentally ready, but I had to eat a little humble pie.''

For now, Reboulet and Donnels are platooning at third. Beltre is not expected back until next month.

--One for the books: Tracy was naturally delighted by winning his first game as manager, but he took particular pleasure in how solidly the Dodgers played.

``We worked very hard for six weeks,'' he said. ``We beat the fundamentals to death. It's not just myself, my coaching staff deserves a lot of credit.
