High of Bellflower product is serious about signing with his hometown club. However, the Dodgers are just one of four teams known to have a strong interest in Garciaparra.

Arn Tellem Arn Tellem is a player agent for various major sports and is the top agent for NBA players, having negotiated over $200 million worth of contracts for his NBA clients for the '06/'07 season alone. , Garciaparra's Los Angeles-based agent, emailed a written statement to media members Thursday that did little to clear up the issue.

``Nomar is very pleased to have several attractive options for next season,'' it read. ``He is weighing all of them carefully and hopes to make the best decision for him and his family in the very near future. The decision will not, however, be made today.''

Garciaparra, 32, is believed to have narrowed his choices to the Dodgers, Cleveland, Houston and the New York Yankees Editing of this page by unregistered or newly registered users is currently disabled due to vandalism. , and it is believed he would be willing to sign a one-year deal in the $6 million-to-$8 million range. But each of the four clubs will want Garciaparra to switch positions, with the Dodgers likely to move him to either first base or left field.

The Dodgers also continue to pursue free-agent outfielders Kenny Lofton, Reggie Sanders and Preston Wilson. But they appear to be long shots in the race to sign free-agent outfielder Johnny Damon, whose Los Angeles- based agent, Scott Boras, is believed to be asking for nothing short of a five-year guarantee.

--More Mueller: The two-year, $9.5 million contract free-agent third baseman Bill Mueller signed with the Dodgers on Wednesday will pay him salaries of $4.25 million in 2006 and $4.5 million in 2007. It also includes a $750,000 signing bonus that can be deferred without interest to save some room under next year's payroll budget.

Mueller said he hopes to be the Dodgers' regular third baseman for the life of the contract, a situation that might become muddled with highly touted third-base prospect Andy LaRoche expected to be ready by 2007.

``That has been my primary position for all of the nine years and 63 days of service time I have in the big leagues,'' Mueller said. ``That's my goal, to be the everyday third baseman.''
