DODGERS NOTEBOOK: FALSE ALARM FOR SHEFFIELD.Byline: Brian Dohn Staff Writer A possible disaster turned out to be nothing more than a slight inconvenience when X-rays on Gary Sheffield's injured right ankle were negative and will cause the all-star left fielder to miss only a few games. Sheffield, who sprained the ankle on two other occasions this season, didn't start for the first time this season Tuesday against Cincinnati, but he said he's hoping to return Friday against Philadelphia. ``I thought when it happened it was worse than it was,'' Sheffield said. ``The way (team physician Dr. Frank Jobe) put the X-rays on the board, I thought it was something worse. He said, `Come over here and sit down,' so I could look at them better. He just said I pulled ligaments again and stretched it out.'' Sheffield injured the ankle sliding into second base trying to break up a double play in the 11th inning of Monday's 14-inning win against the Reds. Sheffield, examined at Centinela Hospital Medical Center by Jobe, was officially diagnosed with strained ligaments in the ankle, which has seen its share of trauma. He injured the ankle initially April 8 in New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. Geronimo Berroa started in left field for the first time in Sheffield's place, and his absence changes the complexion of the lineup. Sheffield, hitting .316 with 38 RBI RBI abbr.
