DODGERS NOTEBOOK: DODGERS TO HAVE SEASON OF SHARING?

Byline: Brian Dohn Daily News Staff Writer

If the Dodgers move their spring training site to Arizona they may be forced to spend their first season sharing a ballpark with, of all teams, the San Francisco Giants The San Francisco Giants are a Major League Baseball team based in San Francisco, California that currently play in the National League West Division. The Dodgers are contemplating a move from Dodgertown after 51 years.

``My sense is the stadium may not be ready for next spring training,'' Dodgers director of business development Fred Coons said.

Coons said an option would be to play spring training home games at another team's complex, something commonly done in the Cactus League. Coronado is across the bay.  Padres share a site in Peoria and the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago White Sox The Chicago White Sox are a professional baseball team based in Chicago, Illinois. While Coons declined to comment on which team would share a stadium with the Dodgers, a source said the choice was the Giants.

Because of the time frame, the proposed $30 million project in the Scottsdale area would have to be completed in two phases: the practice fields and construction of the stadium.

The Dodgers would practice at Fort McDowell but take the 15- to 20-minute trip to Scottsdale Stadium for games.

Discussions are ongoing between the Dodgers and the Fort McDowell Indian Community. The Dodgers, who own Dodgertown, are also talking with Indian River County (Fla.) and the city of Vero Beach about selling the complex to them and leasing it back.
