DODGERS NOTEBOOK: DODGERS LOOKING FOR MORE TRADES.

Byline: Heather Gripp Staff Writer

The Dodgers are not done looking to make moves before Tuesday's trading deadline. Thursday's acquisition of pitcher James Baldwin filled the need to bolster an ailing starting rotation, but the Dodgers continue to pursue deals for a shortstop and a reliever to aid the bullpen while Mike Fetters is struggling.

A potential trade of shortstop Alex Cora and minor-leaguers for Kansas City shortstop Rey Sanchez is among the top priorities, sources said. The teams are said to have been talking on and off for more than a month. Sanchez entered Friday batting .305 compared to Cora's .228.

Turk Wendell was among the top choices to fill the set-up role, but the New York Mets traded him to the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. Montreal's Ugueth Urbina is another candidate.

``This time of year people start to come clean on things they were playing poker with before,'' Dodgers major-league senior advisor Dan Evans said. ``The cell phone's on and charging. ... We're not done yet. We're willing to improve our team.''

--The unknown hero: An Australian TV crew was at Dodger Stadium on Friday to do a piece on Dodgers pitcher Luke Prokopec and fellow Australian Jeff Williams. The attention from their home country was rare. Prokopec has received little attention from his native country despite an impressive rookie season.

``There's no Prokomania,'' said Craig Norenbergs, the producer of the Australian show, adding Prokopec could probably easily walk the streets of Australia without being recognized.

Cricket, rugby and swimming are the sports that produce the big stars there.

``I would put baseball just below monster truck racing,'' Norenbergs said.

--Time to rest: The pitching rotation is being juggled to give Prokopec more time to let the blister on his middle finger heal. Prokopec, who last pitched Wednesday, is scheduled to start Thursday. After Monday's day off, Eric Gagne is scheduled to start Tuesday's opening game of a three-game series against Cincinnati and Terry Adams will start Wednesday.

--Roster move: Outfielder Bruce Aven Aven (ā`vĕn), in the Bible, abusive name applied to towns: to Bethel (see Beth-aven); to Heliopolis in Egypt in the Book of Ezekiel; and to some other place, traditionally Baalbek, in the Book of Amos. was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas after Friday's game to make room on the roster for James Baldwin, scheduled to join the team today and start Sunday.

--Odds and ends: Jeff Shaw took over the National League lead in saves when he recorded his 30th Thursday, giving him his fourth season with 30 or more saves. ... Sunday's game is sold out. ... Dave Hansen started at first base in place of Eric Karros on Friday. The move had nothing to do with Karros being hit by a pitch in the eighth inning Thursday, according to Dodgers manager Jim Tracy. Karros is fine, said Tracy, who wants to keep all his players sharp and figured facing Pedro Astacio would be the perfect opportunity to give Hansen more playing time.

DODGERS vs. COLORADO

Time: 1:10 p.m., at Dodger Stadium

TV/Radio: Ch. 11; 1150-AM, 1330-AM (Spanish)

Matchup: RH Chan Ho Park (10-6, 2.93 ERA) will start for the Dodgers against Colorado LH Mike Hampton (10-7, 4.47) in the second game of a three-game series. Park is coming off a victory over Milwaukee. He won his only other start of the season against the Rockies in May - a game in which Hampton also started- when he allowed one run and struck out nine.
