DODGERS NOTEBOOK: DAAL WANTS NO TRADE NOW.

Byline: Brian Dohn Staff Writer

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Dodgers right-hander Kevin Brown The name Kevin Brown can refer to several different people, including the following:
  • Kevin Brown (baseball) (b. 1965), a former Major League Baseball right-handed starting pitcher with 211 career wins
  • Kevin D. Brown (b.
will undergo back surgery that will sideline him until after the All-Star Game An all-star game is an exhibition game played by the best players in their sports league. The players are often chosen by a popular vote of fans of the sport and the game often occurs at the halfway point of the regular season, although this is not the case for some all-star games , which means lefty Omar Daal
Omar José Daal (born February 23, 1972 in Maracaibo, Zulia State, Venezuela) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for 11 seasons, from 1993 through 2003.
is backing off his trade request.

Daal, who will start today against Tampa Bay Tampa Bay, inlet of the Gulf of Mexico, 25 mi (40 km) long and 7 to 12 mi (11.3–19 km) wide, W Fla., separated from the Gulf by numerous small islands; it receives the Hillsborough River. St. , reiterated that his only desire was to be in the starting rotation, and with Brown's injury, that has taken place. Daal replaces Brown in the rotation for the foreseeable future.

``I told this team when I got here I only wanted to be a starter,'' Daal said Monday. ``If I'm a starter, why would I want to be traded? That's all I ask, ya know.''

Indeed, that technically qualifies as a rescinding of the trade demand, Daal said.

However, with his place in the rotation secure, the spotlight gets a little brighter and much warmer on Daal, who is 4-2 with a 2.72 ERA. He is 2-2 with a 4.81 ERA in his four starts. He also allowed six runs in six innings in losing his last two starts and his ERA has risen two runs in that span, but he said he is confident he can fill Brown's place in the rotation.

``I know I can do it,'' Daal said. ``I said before that I don't want anybody to get hurt to get that opportunity. But it was the only way to get an opportunity, so now I just have to go out there and do my job. Not just me, but all the starters. It's not pressure on me. Everybody's gotta go do their job.''

and one of the top five players in coach Bob Toledo's incoming class, agreed to a minor-league contract to play for the Dodgers. The deal prohibits Nixon from playing football.

Nixon, from Sunnyslope High in Arizona, was drafted in the third round and agreed to a $950,000 signing bonus A signing bonus or sign-on bonus is a sum of money paid to a new employee by a company as an incentive to join that company. ``His hands are so good and catching is a tough commodity to find,'' Dodgers amateur scouting director Logan White said. ``He's intelligent and we like his make-up. He's going to give football up and he's going to play baseball. We got a kid with size and athleticism and his bat is very good.''

The Dodgers are also close to signing Esperanza High's Greg Miller Greg David Miller (born November 3, 1984, in Orange, California) is a Major League Baseball pitching prospect in the Los Angeles Dodgers minor league system. Greg was on the fast track to the majors in '03, but a shoulder injury in the spring of '04 slowed him. , taken 31st overall with a supplemental pick between the first and second rounds. Miller, a left-handed pitcher who was going to attend Cal, could sign by the end of the week for a bonus of $1.2 million plus tuition.

The Dodgers have agreed, in principle, to a deal worth about $1.3 million with James Loney, their first-round (19th overall) pick.

--This ain't home: Before Tampa Bay's first season in 1998, Dodgers first baseman Eric Karros
