DODGERS NOTEBOOK: BROWN LOOKS SHARP IN SIMULATED GAME.

Byline: Steve Dilbeck Staff Writer

Right-hander Kevin Brown The name Kevin Brown can refer to several different people, including the following:
  • Kevin Brown (baseball) (b. 1965), a former Major League Baseball right-handed starting pitcher with 211 career wins
  • Kevin D. Brown (b.
remained on target to make his first start of the season Sunday after throwing a simulated game Wednesday afternoon.

Brown, originally scheduled to start opening day, has been on the disabled list with a strained right Achilles tendon Achilles tendon

 since March 24th.

``It was a much-needed exercise,'' said Dodgers pitching coach Jim Colborn
James William Colborn (born May 22, 1946 in Santa Paula, California) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher.
The right-handed Colborn pitched for the Chicago Cubs (1969-71), Milwaukee Brewers (1972-76), Kansas City Royals (1977-78) and Seattle Mariners (1978).
. ``He hadn't faced hitters in a while. He got lots of pitches to build up his stamina.

``As far as him being perfectly 100 percent game-ready, I don't think he's quite there. But he's good enough to probably to do all right. He's not at his best, but he can probably go out and pitch and keep us in the game.''

Colborn said the Dodgers are hoping he will be able to start on Sunday, the first day he's eligible to come off the DL. Brown was not available for comment.

Dodgers manager Jim Tracy

``Not so much frontwards, but the running he did backwards, putting pressure on the tendon, is very encouraging,'' Tracy said.

--And I'm sticking to it: Tracy wasn't second-guessing himself after putting rookie left-hander Jose Nunez into a tough major-league debut situation Tuesday.

The decision cost L.A. the victory when Nunez, who had never pitched above Single-A, gave up a double to Mark Grace and a game-winning two-run homer to Luis Gonzalez Luis Gonzalez is a common personal name that can refer to different people:

The Dodgers were leading 2-1 when Nunez came in to start the seventh. Tracy said he liked the way the 22-year-old came back to get the next three hitters after Gonzalez's homer.

``It's early enough in the season where we would like to find out something,'' Tracy said. ``He threw 14 strikes in 19 pitches. It was interesting to me to see the way he came back.''

--Dodger debut: Right-hander Andy Ashby

Ashby will be pitching for his sixth team in nine years but said he still gets excited over a debut.

``I think you do even if you've been with the club a long time,'' Ashby said. ``Your first start, every start, I think you get butterflies and get the adrenalin flowing.''
