Catcher Einar Diaz Einar Antonio Diáz (born December 28, 1972 in Chiriquí Province, Panama) is a Minor League Baseball catcher who plays in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

Diaz was called up in 1996 by the Cleveland Indians to back up then-catcher Sandy Alomar, Jr.
was brought along only for insurance and already knew he wouldn't be part of the active roster.

That means besides a starting rotation of Derek Lowe Derek Christopher Lowe[1] (born June 1, 1973 in Dearborn, Michigan)[2] is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He throws and bats right-handed. , Hong-Chih Kuo Hong-Chih Kuo (Traditional Chinese: 郭泓志; pinyin: Guō Hóngzhì) (born July 23, 1981 in Tainan City, Taiwan) is a Major League Baseball pitcher with the Los Angeles Dodgers. , Greg Maddux and possibly Brad Penny, the Dodgers will carry a six-man bullpen. It will consist of right-handers Jonathan Broxton, Aaron Sele, Brett Tomko and closer Takashi Saito. Beimel's injury leaves Mark Hendrickson as the only left-hander.

Dodgers manager Grady Little hinted that he might have kept an additional pitcher if there hadn't been concerns about the health of first baseman Nomar Garciaparra, who felt good during batting practice but continues to battles strains both of his left quadriceps and right oblique. That prompted Little and general manager Ned Colletti to keep hot-hitting rookie James Loney on the roster in case Garciaparra gets hurt again.

``I was really looking forward to having a practice to see how it felt, and it felt good,'' Garciaparra said. ``If it was hurting me, I was going to probably take half the amount of swings. But I took a full batting practice. If we had extra time, I would have jumped in there to swing more. I'm excited about that.''

Costly injury: Missing the final two games of the season with his side injury cost Garciaparra $500,000. He already had bumped his incentive- laden, one-year contract, which carried a base salary of $6 million, to $8.5 million and would have taken it to $9 million if he had reached 525 plate appearances.

Garciaparra finished with 523.

The Dodgers probably won't re-sign Garciaparra, a potential free agent who has been healthy and productive enough to drive up his price but still did two stints on the disabled list. But Garciaparra said that is the farthest thing from his mind as he prepares for the postseason.

``I always say that stuff gets taken care of in the offseason,'' he said. ``I'll worry about it when all of this is over.''

Also: With no local television for the playoffs (all games will be televised nationally), Dodgers Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully will call the first three and the last three innings of each game on radio, with Rick Monday and Charley Steiner calling the middle three. ... Dodgers player development director Terry Collins, who is mulling an offer to become manager of the Orix Buffaloes of the Japanese Pacific League, recently was given a two-year contract extension by the Dodgers that runs through 2008. But Collins, who formerly managed the Angels and Houston Astros, wants to manage again and is expected to make a decision soon.
