But it sure would have been nice to get another victory, especially with San Diego bearing down on the Dodgers in the tight NL West division race and the reality of playing 10 road games over the next 11 days staring them in the face. So it was a disappointed -- albeit pragmatic -- group of Dodgers who hurried about the clubhouse preparing for their Sunday night charter after getting pounded from one side of Dodger Stadium to the other in a 12-5 loss to Colorado. ``You just turn the page and move on,'' catcher Toby Hall said. ``That's something this team is really good at doing.'' The loss ended the Dodgers' seven-game win streak and reduced their division lead over the Padres to three games, a margin they carry with them through Milwaukee, New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. Then again, after taking two of three from Colorado to win their 10th series July 28, they feel they're more than ready to handle the challenge. ``I think our confidence shows in what we do on the field,'' Martin said. ``We know we're playing good baseball right now.'' Sele did what he could in place of Billingsley, and what he didn't deliver in results, he at least made up for by absorbing four innings to help ease the workload of an increasingly burdened bullpen. Sele plowed through the early part of the game, taking a 2-1 lead in to the fifth. But three careless pitches to Kaz Matsui, Todd Helton and Garrett Atkins resulted in a two-run triple, a run-scoring double and an RBI RBI abbr. All of a sudden, the Rockies led 5-2 and Sele was leaving in favor of Elmer Dessens. ``I left some balls up,'' said Sele, who was making his first start since August 1. Fatigue wasn't an issue, Sele said. ``Basically it came down to pitch quality,'' he said. Dessens was immediately greeted by a 481-foot home run by Matt Holliday to give the Rockies a 7-2 lead. The ball sailed over the back wall of the Dodgers' left-field bullpen, taking with it any chance of a Dodgers comeback. In all, the Rockies pounded out 18 hits against four Dodgers pitchers, including six for extra bases. ``These type of games happen from time to time,'' Little said. ``Fortunately they haven't happened very often to us.'' It wasn't all bad. Hong-Chih Kuo, a candidate to get a starting pitching assignment, had four strikeouts in two innings; James Loney went 2 for 5 with a triple and an RBI; and newly acquired Marlon Anderson had a pinch-hit double and a two-run home run. Now they'll send ace Greg Maddux to the mound this morning against Milwaukee to kick off the most important stretch of the season. When it comes to getting back on track, the Dodgers feel they're in pretty good hands. ``We want to get another winning streak started,'' said Hall, who had two hits and two RBIs. ``The good thing is, we're talking about winning streaks, not losing streaks. I think we'll be OK.'' vincent.bonsignore@dailynews.com (818) 713-3612 CAPTION(S): 2 photos Photo: (1) Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal tags out the Rockies' Kaz Matsui at second base in the sixth.
