There were many story lines in the victory. Starter Kazuhisa Ishii Kazuhisa Ishii (石井一久 Ishii Kazuhisa; born September 9, 1973 in Wakaba-ku, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan) is a Japanese Major League Baseball pitcher. pitched well despite an stiff neck and shoulder. Lo Duca thrived in the fifth spot in the lineup. And Eric Gagne finally had an opportunity to get his first save. ``We got exactly what we needed from our starting pitcher,'' Dodgers manager Jim Tracy said. Ishii's six innings were good news for a weary bullpen. But Lo Duca had the clutch hits with his one-out double in the third inning and two-out double in the seventh. ``I've said from day one that I don't care where I hit as long as I'm in the lineup,'' Lo Duca said. ``I felt better at the plate. The whole team's been sluggish. (Tuesday) we played with more energy and it paid off.'' Ishii gave up two home runs but otherwise was solid. Luis Gonzalez hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to tie the game, and 37-year-old Matt Williams hit a solo shot in the sixth for a 3-2 Diamondbacks lead. Ishii battled stiffness in his trapezius tra·pe·zi·us n. A muscle with origin from the superior nuchal line, the external occipital protuberance, the nuchal ligament, the spinous processes of the seventh cervical and thoracic vertebrae, with insertion into the lateral third of the posterior muscle, which covers part of the neck and shoulder. Lo Duca noticed something was wrong and made two consecutive trips to the mound in the fourth inning - one with coaches and trainers - in which Ishii faced seven batters. ``It was tight,'' Ishii said. ``It was just a muscle. I'm fine.'' Ishii struck out seven and walked three, one of which was intentional. Paul Shuey pitched two scoreless innings for the victory and Gagne struck out Steve Finley and retired the side in the ninth. He had 52 saves last season, but he had to wait nine games for his first one this year. ``I knew they were going to come, it was just a matter of time,'' Gagne said. Ishii retired the side in the second and third innings but ran into trouble in the fourth. He hit Junior Spivey on a pitch that bounced in the dirt, then gave up the home run to Gonzalez, who smacked a 3-2 curveball to right field for his second home run of the season to tie it 2-2. Daryle Ward's first start in left field - so Jordan could have his day off - was a disaster. Ward stranded seven baserunners and was booed after he hit into a double play with runners on first and second in the fifth inning. Ward then leisurely strolled all the way to his left-field spot between innings. But in seemingly an instant, he had the crowd back on his side after he robbed Gonzalez of a hit on a diving catch in left-center. ``I've been booed before,'' Ward said. ``It's not a big deal. It's hard to play off the bench, and I'm doing the best I can. Those are the first pitchers I've seen in awhile, and they were good. It's just something (where) I need to check some videos.'' Arizona starter Oscar Villarreal, 21, made his first major-league start and lasted just three innings, allowing two runs. Miguel Batista pitched four innings in relief.
