DODGERS CAN'T SOLVE RUETER PEREZ RECEIVES LITTLE SUPPORT S.F. 3, DODGERS 2.

Byline: Brian Dohn Staff Writer

SAN FRANCISCO San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  - The pitching staff is awesome, but the Dodgers already knew that.

The lineup is pathetic, and the Dodgers did everything this offseason to ensure it would not be.

The Dodgers got another excellently pitched game and wasted it again as San Francisco left-hander Kirk Rueter pitched 7 2/3 innings and Barry Bonds Barry Lamar Bonds (born July 24 1964 in Riverside, California) is a left fielder for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball. He is the son of former major league All-Star Bobby Bonds, the godson of Hall of Famer Willie Mays, and a distant cousin of Hall of Famer Reggie  homered and the Giants beat the lackluster Dodgers 3-2 on Friday at Pac Bell Park.

Less than two weeks into the season, the Giants, who won the first two games of this four-game set, lead the rival Dodgers by 5 1/2 games in the National League West.

Dodgers starter Odalis Perez allowed three runs in six innings on six hits. It was the 10th quality start - at least six innings, three earned runs or less - for the Dodgers in 13 games, but the starters are a miserable 3-4 with three no-decisions in such games. The Dodgers entered the night tied for 11th in the 16-team National League with 39 runs but were 14th with a .228 batting average batting average

was dropped to sixth, has scored two runs or less five times. Since scoring eight runs in the season opener, the Dodgers haven't scored more than five runs.

Bonds provided the sellout crowd with some excitement as he hit his fourth homer of the season and 617th of his career. Bonds later added his 495th stolen base.

Rueter, who didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning, improved to 2-0. He allowed four hits, one unearned run, walked two and struck out one. Tim Worrell Timothy Howard Worrell (born July 5, 1967 in Pasadena, California) is a former right-handed relief pitcher in Major League Baseball.            to end it.

Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, aging Giants first baseman Andres Galarraga delivered the key hit. It began when Perez issued a two-out walk to Jose Cruz Jr. and Benito Santiago doubled. Galarraga, 41, then singled through the left side of the infield to score two runs and give the Giants a 3-1 lead.

Dodgers left fielder Brian Jordan, who tied the game 1-1 with a two-out single in the sixth inning, had the opportunity to tie the game in the eighth. But with two runners on and two outs, reliever Felix Rodriguez got Jordan to fly out to deep center field to end the inning.

Of course, the Dodgers nearly blundered themselves out of their best scoring opportunity against Rueter until Jordan came through with his single.

Perez led off the inning by reaching on second baseman Ray Durham's fielding error, and Dave Roberts singled on a dribbler about 12 feet along the first-base line. Shortstop Cesar Izturis failed to get a sacrifice bunt down as Perez was thrown out at third. Shawn Green flied out to left, but Jordan singled through the middle of the infield to tie it 1-1.

Bonds' second-inning homer on a 2-0 pitch gave the Giants a 1-0 lead.

However, Bonds' decision not to slide into home in the fourth might have cost the Giants another run, and eventually the lead. Bonds walked with one out and stole second. Cruz Jr. popped out to right and Santiago walked. Galarraga singled to left and Jordan, who was playing deep, fielded and threw home. Catcher Paul Lo Duca Paul Anthony Lo Duca (born April 12, 1972 in Brooklyn, New York) is a catcher in Major League Baseball who plays for the New York Mets. Previously, Lo Duca played for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1998-2004) and Florida Marlins (2004-2005).  made the catch slightly wide of the plate and reached back to tag Bonds, who didn't slide.
