Time to look for a Plan B.

Shea Hillenbrand Shea Matthew Hillenbrand[1] (born July 27, 1975 in Mesa, Arizona)[2] is a Major League Baseball third baseman.

in the 15th inning to give the Diamondbacks a 2-1 win in a marathon game in front of 41,382 at Bank One Ballpark.

The Dodgers' bullpen put out nearly a game's worth of scoreless innings itself before buckling before the pesky Diamondbacks. In the end the missed chances fall upon the Dodgers' offense, again stifled on a night in which they managed only three hits. They had only two baserunners in the extra six innings, both on walks in the top of the 15th.

Worse, the Dodgers missed a chance to win on a night they faced Arizona's Johnson, who dominated for eight innings but found a formidable opponent in Dodgers starter Odalis Perez.

Both pitchers took a no-decision, but Johnson's effort was an ominous sign for the Dodgers, who began a nine-game road trip Friday that is their longest of the season. Johnson was in top form, bad news for the Dodgers as they slipped 1 1/2 games behind In sports, the phrase games behind, often abbreviated as GB in tables, is a common way to reflect the gap between a leading team and another team in a sports league, conference, or division.  Arizona for second place in the National League West.

Before Friday, Johnson had made just five starts and pitched 29 1/3 innings. He was sidelined for 12 weeks because of right-knee surgery, but any doubts about his health were erased with Friday's dominant effort.

The Dodgers and Diamondbacks went to extra innings for the fifth time in their 10 meetings this season, and the Diamondbacks kept threatening by putting runners on in five the six extra innings.      was unable to deliver on an attempted bunt single.

Burnitz's second-inning solo home run was the only mark against Johnson, who allowed three hits in eight innings, walked one and struck out six. But Johnson was matched by Perez, who allowed one run on five hits in eight innings, walked one and struck out seven.

Perez continues to be an enigma for the Dodgers. Perez took a no-hitter into the eighth inning three weeks ago against the Diamondbacks, but then got hit hard in his next two outings and didn't get out of the fourth inning Sunday against St. Louis.

Perez gave the Dodgers a glimpse of greatness early Friday. He was perfect through three innings with four strikeouts and led 1-0 into the fourth, but the Diamondbacks tied the game when Matt Kata led off with a home run to left field.

Perez got some defensive help to get out of two jams in the middle innings. Junior Spivey led off the fifth and blasted a ball to center field, and Burnitz scrambled back but the ball bounced over his head and Spivey had a triple.

But with one out and Johnson on deck, Spivey took off for home on a sharp grounder by Chad Moeller. Dodgers shortstop Cesar Iztuis made a nice stop and threw home in plenty of time to get Spivey.

Arizona threatened again to lead off the sixth, when Kata walked and Cintron ran out an infield single, but Gonzalez then grounded to second. Jolbert Cabrera slid to stop the ball, and directed it toward Izturis, who touched the bag and started a double play. Hillenbrand grounded out to strand Kata at third.

Otherwise, Perez sparkled and seemed to get stronger as the game progressed. After his sixth-inning trouble, Perez retired seven of the next eight batters he faced.
