DODGERS BOOT ONE TO ANGELS, CUT ROSTER TO 25 : ANGELS 9, DODGERS 6.

Byline: Kevin Modesti Daily News Staff Writer

The Dodgers took care of some paperwork Saturday night. Then they returned to the weekend's physical labor, losing to the Angels 9-6 before 43,550 fans at Dodger Stadium     [  in a Freeway Series The term Freeway Series refers to a series of baseball games played between Major League Baseball's Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of the American League and the Los Angeles Dodgers of the National League.  game that featured six lead changes.

For the Angels, the highlights were Tim Salmon's 400-foot home run off Pedro Astacio Pedro Julio Astacio (born November 28, 1969 in Hato Mayor, Dominican Republic) is a pitcher in Major League Baseball. He has played for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1992- part of 1997), Colorado Rockies (part of 1997- part of 2001), Houston Astros (part of 2001), New York Mets  and a five-run ninth inning thanks to errors by reliever Darren Hall Michael Darren Hall (born July 14, 1964, in Marysville, Ohio) was a Major League Baseball right-handed pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers. For the Dodgers, there was the three-run eighth in which Chad Fonville's double cashed in a Gary DiSarcina

       made it 6-4.

And there was pre-game drama, when manager Tom Lasorda closed the clubhouse doors and told his players how the roster would be cut to 25 for Monday's season opener.

The Dodgers produced airline tickets and doctor's notes for 10 players:

They optioned reliever Antonio Osuna Antonio Pedro Osuna (born April 12, 1973 in Sinaloa, Mexico) is a former major league relief pitcher. He batted right and threw right. . Osuna was a victim of his 5.68 spring ERA and Hall's arrival from Toronto. This means career starter Chan Ho Park will open the season in the bullpen.

arrowThey optioned infielders Mike Busch and Garey Ingram to Triple A as well. Busch, the 1995 replacement-player cause celebre, became expendable when first baseman Eric Karros' shoulder healed and Billy Ashley slipped into the right-handed power pinch-hitter role.

They placed reliever Scott Radinsky on the 15-day disabled list, creating room for fellow left-hander Joey Eischen, who is out of options. Radinsky, a Simi Valley High product, faced hitters in batting practice Saturday, said the tendinitis in his left middle finger had cleared up, but thought he is ``just behind.''

Assigned to Albuquerque four players who were in camp but not on the Dodgers' roster: Prince, pitcher Mike Harkey and outfielders Rick Parker and Williams. Carlos Hernandez will back up Piazza behind the plate. Roger Cedeno could share left field with fellow rookie Todd Hollandsworth and Ashley.

Assigned left-hander Narciso Elvira's contract to Monterrey of the Mexican League.

The moves leave the Dodgers with three left-handed relievers - Eischen, John Cummings and Mark Guthrie - barring a trade. Executive vice president Fred Claire joked that this is the first spring that he has fielded more phone calls seeking left-handers than he's placed.

the fifth-starter job, Astacio's 4-2/3-inning, eight-hit, four-run outing Saturday could have come at a bad time. But Lasorda said he still planned to start Astacio in the season's fifth game Friday in Chicago.

Astacio, winless in five spring starts, served up Salmon's seventh homer, which flew halfway up the left-field bleachers leading off the second inning.

That wiped out a 1-0 lead the Dodgers took on singles by Delino DeShields and Brett Butler and a fly ball by Piazza against Angels starter Shawn Boskie.

Astacio fell behind when he walked Salmon to force in a run after two Angels hits and a hit batter in the third.

the lead 3-2 on DeShields' two-run double in the fourth.

Again, though, the Angels came back, overcoming DiSarcina's sloppy baserunning to go up 4-3 on three singles and J.T. Snow's double off the 395 sign in the fifth. That drove Astacio from the game.

DiSarcina was out after rounding second on Jim Edmonds' single and being chased to third - where Rex Hudler stood. Two innings earlier, Hudler was called out trying to steal home with the left-handed Snow at the plate.

Edmonds' single gave him a 21-game spring hitting streak.

Notes: Raul Mondesi missed the game after straining a muscle below his right ribs in the Dodgers' 6-2 victory Friday at Anaheim Stadium. Roger Cedeno played right field. . . .

The Angels must set their roster following today's 12:05 p.m. game at Dodger Stadium (Jim Abbott vs. Tom Candiotti and Mike Harkey). . . . The Dodgers fly to Houston right after the game and open against the Astros on Monday afternoon. The Angels open at home Tuesday night against the Milwaukee Brewers (Chuck Finley vs. Ricky Bones, followed by Mark Langston vs. Ben MacDonald on Wednesday). . . .
