DODGERS ARE STILL HANGING AROUND L.A. TRAILS COLORADO IN THE NINTH INNING.Byline: Tony Jackson
Anthony (Antonio) Jackson, best known as Tony Jackson Staff Writer It was a year ago this month that Aaron Cook Aaron Lane Cook (born February 8, 1979 in Fort Campbell, Kentucky) is a right-handed Major League Baseball pitcher currently playing for the Colorado Rockies. He has played with the Rockies for his entire Major League career, spanning from 2002 onwards. cheated death, heeding the advice of Colorado trainer Tom Probst that he seek medical attention rather than simply going home and wait for the dizziness and shortness of breath Shortness of Breath Definition Shortness of breath, or dyspnea, is a feeling of difficult or labored breathing that is out of proportion to the patient's level of physical activity. to subside. But, following the same template he had established on that fateful evening of Aug. 7, 2004, he found a way to minimize the damage and apparently emerge triumphant, leaving the fast-fading Dodgers in a 5-4 hole after 8 1/2 innings at Dodger Stadium • • [ . He has usually been a bench player, but injuries to regular right fielder Shane Victorino and his backup Michael on third base. He dodged another bullet in the third, losing his shutout but avoiding further damage when he stranded Oscar Robles on third. He stranded five more runners over the next two innings before finally giving way to the Rockies bullpen to start the sixth, a point at which Cook had thrown 97 pitches. His performance was far short of dominating. But it left him with a career 3.34 ERA against the Dodgers and manager Jim Tracy, who shares Cook's hometown of Hamilton, Ohio. Cook's comeback trail didn't even begin until June 26, when he started a rehabilitation assignment at short-season Tri-City (Wash.). Over the next month, he made a total of seven appearances for four different Rockies affiliates before finally returning to the big leagues on July 30, when it didn't really matter that he got knocked around by Philadelphia. Since then, Cook has made six starts, posting a 4.15 ERA. He was staked to his early lead by three homers off Dodgers starter Brad Penny. Penny, who allowed five earned runs and four walks over six innings, never came close to invoking any fear in the Rockies hitters. Dustan Mohr gave Colorado a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a drive to left field. Matt Holliday followed with a three-run shot in the third, a drive over the center field wall. Even after all the wasted rallies against Cook, the Dodgers put together one more rally in the sixth against Rockies relievers Randy Williams and Scott Dohmann. The inning began when Williams issued consecutive walks to Dioner Navarro and Jose Valentin. Antonio Perez, hitting for Penny, then hit a run-scoring single to left. But Perez foolishly tried to stretch the hit to a double and easily was gunned down at second base, a moment that would prove fateful by the time the inning had ended. Robles Robles is a common surname in the Spanish language meaning oaks, and may refer to:
