DODGERS ACE HAS MORTAL STUFF BROWN LOSES FOR FIRST TIME SINCE APRIL ANGELS 6, DODGERS 3.

Kevin Brown The name Kevin Brown can refer to several different people, including the following:
  • Kevin Brown (baseball) (b. 1965), a former Major League Baseball right-handed starting pitcher with 211 career wins
  • Kevin D. Brown (b.
 is human after all.

The defending World Series champion Angels discovered this much Sunday, getting the best of the Dodgers' best starter.

Brown allowed a season-high 10 hits and four earned runs as the Angels avoided a sweep with a 6-3 victory in front of a sellout crowd of 54,631 at Dodger Stadium     [ .

The Dodgers - who have won 10 of 12 games - still are tied for first in the National League West. Kevin Brown is a major reason why we're getting on an airplane (bound for San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden ) with a 44-30 record and a tie for first place. He didn't have it today.''

Brown, who had won nine consecutive decisions, lost for the first time since April 19. He had won seven starts in a row. Three of the four runs he surrendered came in the fourth inning, in which the Angels batted around. While he didn't have his usually dominating stuff, he still struck out eight.

The groin strain that forced him to leave Tuesday's game early didn't affect him, he said.

``You give up 10 hits and four runs, I'd say there's a little bit lacking there,'' Brown said. ``I threw some bad pitches and they took advantage. It was just one of those days.''

It's just that Brown doesn't have them often.

The Dodgers had pulled within one run at 4-3 in the seventh, thanks to a run-scoring single by Shawn Green and an RBI triple to right field by Paul Lo Duca Paul Anthony Lo Duca (born April 12, 1972 in Brooklyn, New York) is a catcher in Major League Baseball who plays for the New York Mets. Previously, Lo Duca played for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1998-2004) and Florida Marlins (2004-2005). . Jeff DaVanon dove for Lo Duca's ball in right field, but the ball was inches from his glove and got behind him.

Lo Duca was 3 for 4 as he batted in the cleanup spot for the first time this season.

It looked like a lopsided matchup before the game. Heck, to any pitcher opposing Brown, it looks like an unfair task. But the other Kevin allowed seven hits and one run in five innings.

``I marvel at the fact that we got hits off him,'' Appier said.

The Angels got hits off the Dodgers' two best pitchers. They had three singles off closer Eric Gagne on Saturday before he earned the save. They followed that with 10 hits and four runs off Brown, whose ERA went from 1.97 to 2.22.

Anderson, Bengie Molina and Kennedy all had multihit games.

``Pitching the way I did, any lineup can be difficult,'' Brown said.

The Dodgers rallied in the seventh with no outs. Reliever Ben Weber fumbled a bunted ball by Dave Roberts and it was costly as the Dodgers scored two unearned runs in the inning. Weber made two errors on the play. He fielded the ball but dropped it and fell as Roberts ran by and slid safely into first. Weber hurried his throw, which was wide.

After the run-scoring hits by Green and Lo Duca, Daryle Ward struck out with Lo Duca on third to end the inning. And Anderson's homer off Paul Shuey - the first he has allowed this year - was all the cushion the Angels needed.

Cesar Izturis extended his career-high hitting streak to 10 games after an infield single in the first inning.

He'll take that streak to San Francisco, where the Dodgers and Giants will try to gain an advantage in the standings.

``We'll have our hands full,'' Green said. ``We'll try to continue to do what we started this week.''
