April success is nothing new for Odalis Perez. Last season, he won his first three starts, but all that did was set him up for the disappointment of winning just fourof his next 16 starts. The true test of Perez's mettle will come in the summer months, but for now the Dodgers will take what they can get from him, and Friday night that meant a third consecutive solid start.

Perez, after a somewhat shaky start, turned in six quality innings and the Dodgers reversed a nasty 2005 trend as they defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks This article is about the baseball team. For other uses, see Diamondback.

J.D. Drew drove in three runs for the Dodgers. His leadoff home run in the sixth extended their lead to 3-2 and his two-run, two-out single in the seventh gave the Dodgers a comfortable four-run margin.

"If J.D. Drew is healthy, you know he's going to hit and he's going to put up some good numbers," Perez said. "For now he's healthy and he's putting the ball in play. He's having a good year."

Arizona put runners on second and third against reliever Lance Carter Lance Carter (born December 18, 1974 in Bradenton, Florida) is a relief pitcher for the Orix Buffaloes. He used to pitch in Major League Baseball for the Los Angeles Dodgers (2006).  with no outs in the ninth, so the Dodgers turned to closer Danys Baez. The Diamondbacks scored their third run on Tony Clark's groundout, but Baez struck out Damion Easley Jacinto Damion Easley (born on November 11, 1969 in New York City, New York) is a Major League Baseball player who plays for the New York Mets.

Arizona won just 77 games last season, but took eight of nine in LosAngeles. The teams entered Friday's game with identical 7-9 records, but the Dodgers had the clear pitching advantage.

Perez (3-0) got blasted in his first start, a no-decision, but in his next two allowed a combined two earned runs in 12 1/3 innings, and the Diamondbacks got more of the same from Perez.

"Odalis did a great job," Drew said. "When you get a performance like that, you just try to get some runs on the board."

The Diamondbacks got three hits in the first two innings, and tied the score 1-1 on Orlando Hudson's second-inning groundout, but Arizona got only one hit after that. Perez struck out four and walked one.

Perez left with a 3-1 lead, and from there, things got tougher for the Dodgers, but then much easier.

Arizona starter Orlando Hernandez fared fairly well, as he allowed three runs on seven hits in sixinnings, but reliever Greg Aquino Gregori Emilio Aquino Valera (born January 11, 1978 in Palenque, Dominican Republic) is a baseball player for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Aquino got two quick outs in the seventh, but Jason Repko singled, stole second and scored when Rafael Furcal doubled to the wall in left-center. Kenny Lofton then hit an infield single and stole second to put runners on second and third for Drew, who came through with another big hit.

"He's a good player," Arizona manager Bob Melvin said of Drew, "but Furcal furcal /fur·cal/ (fur´k'l) shaped like a fork; forked.

Drew entered the game with a .327 average, tied for the team lead among regulars, and 10 RBIs, second to Bill Mueller's 11, but now leads the Dodgers in both categories.

Drew's single to center scored Furcal and Lofton to give the Dodgers a 6-2 lead.

That was enough to get Perez the victory and send Hernandez (1-3) to another frustrating loss.
